EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Onboard the “Spirit of Peoria,” a nostalgic, 19th-century replica paddleboat, explore the riches of central Illinois. Begin in Peoria with a session on river lore and ecology, then board the vessel for a day’s journey up the Illinois River to Utica as you spot wildlife, learn about life along the river and listen to the onboard calliope.

Highlights

• After a full day on the lazy river, arrive at Starved Rock State Park, Illinois’ premier state park, to explore its canyons and waterfalls.
• Learn about Native American history and culture and take a narrated walk to the “top of the rock.”
• Discover the Illinois & Michigan Canal by mule-drawn replica packet boat. Learn how this hand-built shipping route changed the face of American travel and commerce.

Activity Notes

Minimal walking and standing on this program.
