We’re always developing educational adventures that open windows to new places and probe fascinating topics. Check out our latest creations.
See all of our New programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Program intended for grandchildren from 11 - 14 years of age.

Share the Golden Gate Bridge, Fisherman's Wharf and rumbling cable cars of San Francisco with your grandchildren — there's something for all ages as you explore America’s favorite city! A parallel class structure allows adults to enjoy lectures and presentations while children are doing projects and learning about the city with the youth educator. Group field trips join both generations for a boat ride on the bay, kite flying, and visits to the San Francisco Cable Car Museum (celebrating the 135th anniversary of cable cars in San Francisco) and the Academy of Sciences in Golden Gate Park.

Highlights

• Take the ferry to Alcatraz Island and explore the history of “The Rock.” Park rangers offer programs throughout the day on the history of Alcatraz Island.
• Walk along the busy streets of Chinatown and see the inner workings of a fortune cookie factory.
• Learn about the historic vessels at the Maritime Museum and explore Fisherman’s Wharf on your own.

Activity Notes

Extensive use of public transportation. Walking up to two miles, some stairs.

Coordinated by Road Scholar.
