Road Scholar
Program #21034ENZ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Survey artists around the world who became the focal points of their times! Study Beethoven’s works that broke traditions of the past and created a new musical language. Investigate the brave works of Prokofiev and Shostakovich, voices of resistance dangerously poised in a totalitarian regime. Explore 20th century American Bob Dylan’s work that spoke the language of protest with songs like "Blowin' in the Wind." Consider Beatles songs that still evoke vivid images of the dramatic cultural and sexual revolution of 1960s America.

Highlights

• Enjoy an evening lecture/performance by pianist Kris Faatz, performing Beethoven, Shostakovich and Bob Dylan arrangements while highlighting the historical context of each composer.
• Spend an afternoon surveying 19th and 20th century art works at the Baltimore Museum of Art (BMA) created by visual artists who influenced change when they broke with tradition.
• Dine out one night on delicious Chesapeake Bay cuisine at Gertrude’s Restaurant at the BMA.

Coordinated by Peabody Institute of The Johns Hopkins University.
