ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding, and rewarding, programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Witness the drama unfold in Flushing Meadows as Road Scholar takes you inside the U.S. Open. Spend six days in inimitable New York City, including two afternoons of U.S. Open tennis action, as you learn about the history and evolution of the tournament since its founding as the U.S. National Championships in 1881. Walk on hallowed ground trodden by the likes of Connors, Evert, King, Federer and the greats. Trace the parallel growth of the women’s movement and ladies’ tennis in America and venture outside of Queens to experience all that makes New York the world’s premier destination for art and culture as well as tennis.

• Attend the opening ceremony of the U.S. Open and spend two full afternoons watching the action and soaking up the atmosphere at Flushing Meadows.
• Explore the culture, myths, legends, heroes and heroines of tennis in presentations by insiders including retired players, coaches and historians.
• Discover more of New York on field trips to some of the city’s famous landmarks.
