While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Find your passion for American residential architecture as you trace the evolution of the nation’s housing styles and the social, economic and technological influences they reflect. Visit a log cabin, a classic Greek Revival home, a real Sears “kit” house, and the most “complete” Prairie home and furnishings designed by Frank Lloyd Wright. See how culture and immigration influenced housing styles along with owner personality. Gain insight from architects, psychologists, historians and family experts, and return to your own home with a deeper appreciation for its character.

Highlights

• Spend time at an original 1837 stagecoach inn with a descendant of the original pioneer family.
• Visit the Illinois Governor's Mansion for a guided tour and garden walk.
• Enjoy a private exploration of one of Frank Lloyd Wright's most respected Prairie-style homes, the Dana-Thomas House, and learn about Susan Lawrence Dana who commissioned a fresh young Chicago architect to “remodel” her home in 1904.

Activity Notes

Minimal walking and standing on this program.
