Program #20378ENZ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Nestled in the scenic wine country north of the Napa Valley lies Clear Lake, one of the oldest natural lakes in North America. Boasting more than 100 miles of shoreline, its diverse habitat makes it an ideal home to more than 300 species of birds throughout the year and more than 100 during late summer and fall. Explore the shore, hills, valleys and coves of this designated Important Bird Area with expert birders as you search for herons, egrets, cormorants, flycatchers, grebes, woodpeckers, swallows, nuthatches and more. Program is co-sponsored by the Redbud Audubon Society.

Highlights

• Set out on birding field trips on foot, by kayak and by pontoon boat to hidden marshes and the lake’s many shoreline and cove nesting sites.
• Meet experts from the Audubon Society, the Christmas bird count and the Land Trust to learn of their special expertise.
• Visit a local winery for a talk with a winemaker and a tasting overlooking beautiful Clear Lake.

Program Notes

So you can get the most out of your experience, all of our Birding programs have a maximum participant-to-instructor ratio of 14:1. Road Scholar birding programs are conducted in accordance with the American Birding Association’s Code of Ethics. Learn more at http://www.aba.org/about/ethics.html
