Road Scholar
Program #19588ENZ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Program intended for grandchildren from 9 - 12 years of age.

The Wild West comes alive in Cody, a small city named after William Cody — you may know him as “Buffalo Bill.” Watch a high noon gunfight and experience cowboy and cowgirl action at the rodeo. Explore Red Rock Canyon with a geologist to discover land forms and treasure; find fossils and crystals to take home. Raft the Shoshone River and experience beautiful streamside habitat — look sharp, you might spot a critter!

Highlights

• Climb into the saddle and hit the trail for a horseback ride through the mountains led by experienced wranglers.
• On a field trip to Yellowstone National Park, see Old Faithful, boiling hot springs, mud pots and hissing steam vents, plus look for bison, elk and coyotes.
• Enjoy museum activities and explore the Buffalo Bill Historical Center.

Activity Notes

Several Yellowstone hikes, up to 1.5 miles each. Horseback ride and scenic float, up to 2 hours each.

Coordinated by University of Montana Western.
