Program #20168ENZ
8 Days | 7 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Program intended for grandchildren from 12 - 15 years of age.

Come with your grandchild to the “Land of Enchantment” to hear tales of Native Americans, conquistadors, Jewish merchants, cowboys and others and to learn how their stories have intertwined in northern New Mexico's three most interesting cities — Santa Fe, Taos and Albuquerque. Spend several nights in each city sampling the cuisine of the region, talking with Native American, Hispanic and Anglo instructors, and visiting pueblo ruins, cliff dwellings and other sites where remnants of New Mexico’s early inhabitants are preserved.

Highlights

• Explore the remains of late Anasazi pueblo dwellings and kivas, as well as the Puye Cliff Dwellings at Santa Clara Pueblo.
• Meet a native of New Mexico who will lead a hands-on crafts class.
• Visit Taos Pueblo and Acoma Pueblo with a Native American representative to learn about residents who choose to live as their ancestors did in adobe villages without electricity or running water, rather than in contemporary villages nearby.

Activity Notes

Walking up to one mile over paved and packed dirt terrain, sometimes uneven. Standing up to one hour. Climbing a few stairs, getting on and off bus.
