ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding, and rewarding, programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Experience the Southwest on an adventure focused on American author Tony Hillerman. You will meet Anne Hillerman — the novelist’s daughter, who will be discussing her best-selling books based on the beloved characters created by her father - prior to embarking on this 13-day, three-state exploration of people and locations Hillerman wrote about in his 19-book mystery series featuring officer Jim Chee and Lieutenant Joe Leaphorn of the Navajo Tribal Police. Hear special speakers, view film adaptations of Hillerman novels, and discuss his books with the family who knew him best.

• Experience the culture of Native American pueblos, speak with members of the Navajo Nation and explore Hillerman landscapes and points of interest.
• Explore Canyon de Chelly, Monument Valley, Zuni Pueblo, the Grand Canyon, Window Rock, Chaco Canyon and more.
• Receive a copy of "Tony Hillerman's Landscape," written by Anne Hillerman with photography by Don Strel.

Activity Notes

Walking and hiking up to two miles over uneven, rocky terrain with moderate elevation increases. You must be able to navigate stairs and handle your own luggage in rural hotels without elevators and bell staff.
