Program #9056ENZ
4 Days | 3 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
The New River Gorge is a haven for warblers and a wide variety of migrants and native birds. Join a cadre of ornithologists — from syndicated columnists to luminaries of the birding world — for an immersive look into birding that spans from classroom identification to spotting various species during nature walks through the region’s forests and a boat excursion through the Gorge. Whether you’re a beginner or expert birder, improve your identification skills and knowledge of habitat preservation as you search for more than 100 species including Scarlet Tanagers, Swainson’s Thrush and Blackburnian Warblers.

Highlights

• Take in special presentations by noted naturalist and radio host Dr. Scott Shalaway and Bill Hilton Jr., a hummingbird specialist and writer.
• Raptors and bird banding programs bring close-up observation of live birds into the classroom.
• Enjoy a river jet boat trip for a spectacular view of the New River Bridge with a bird specialist onboard to identify water birds and others of the habitat.

Program Notes
