See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. Minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding, and rewarding, programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
State vs. state, brother vs. brother — experience the tranquil fields of what was the scene of some of the Civil War’s most devastating but pivotal battles. Explore the cultural components and differing ideologies that led to the outbreak of war through on-site lectures, living-history demonstrations and glimpses into the war songs of the era. Journey just south of the Mason-Dixon Line through tranquil rural fields and quaint towns that belie the region’s turbulent past.

• Meet with Civil War reenactors and learn more about the uniforms, weapons and stories of both sides of the battle.
• Walk through the site of several famous battles as an expert repaints the picture of what happened at each key battle site.
• Explore the historic waterways, the C&O Canal and views of the confluence of the Potomac and Shenandoah at Jefferson Rock, and admire the postbellum architecture of Harpers Ferry.
