Program #8116ENZ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderately Challenging
While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Canoe or kayak the dark Suwannee River and the clear, spring-fed waters of the Ichetucknee River on this educational expedition. Hike some of the 28 miles of trails at Big Shoals Public Lands and discover regional folk life as local residents share their food, music, dance and stories. Enjoy an expert-led wildflower walk and woodland picnics, and study the pine and palmetto forests, turpentine camps, Spanish explorers and healing springs that have all left their mark on this region.

Highlights

• Get on the water and on the trails in beautiful Suwanee River country.
• Square dance to the tunes of Florida's state fiddling champion and enjoy the sounds of the world’s largest tubular bells which resonate from the Carillion Tower.
• Feast on local home cooking — from mayhaw jelly to swamp cabbage — at bountiful church suppers.

Program Notes

This time of year the weather is unpredictable, be ready for hot, cold, wet or dry. Items such as sunscreen or insect spray are sometimes useful.

Activity Notes

Four to five hours of moderate physical activity each day. Hiking up to five miles. Canoeing up to eight miles, depending on river flow. Canoe/Kayak release required.

Coordinated by Stephen Foster Folk Culture Center State Park.
