Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Come and explore the birds of the wild Adirondacks. Situated between the lush Ferd’s Bog and the Moose River Plains, this region has 90% of the species that live east of the Mississippi — more than 260 species counted. With a bird expert, learn identification skills by sight, habit and song. Each day begins with treks into the pristine, deep woods. Search for Common loons, Gray Jays, Mourning Warblers and numerous other warbler species, Boreal chickadees, Black-backed woodpeckers, Vireos and fly-catchers, and much more!

Highlights

• Study nesting habits, migration, songs and identification of native and migratory birds with a regional birding expert.
• Slide shows and bird-call lessons teach how to distinguish between native and migrating species.
• Glean insights into the local Adirondack culture with a performance by a famous singer-storyteller during your stay at the Vanderbilt’s Camp Sagamore.

Activity Notes

Walking up to two miles over uneven terrain; some hills; activity up to two hours.

Coordinated by Sagamore Institute of the Adirondacks.
