6 Days | 5 Nights
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. Minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding, and rewarding, programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Join us to discover how and why Nashville has become a crossroads of popular American culture. Learn from experts about local history, heritage, and horses since the town’s founding in 1779. Immerse yourself in the ante bellum era at Belle Meade Plantation and the home of President Andrew Jackson, The Hermitage. Then enjoy a traditional Southern barbecue with all the fixings. It wouldn’t be Nashville, of course, without music, and we’ll get an insider’s perspective on the local scene.

• Take a field trip to the Celebration Grounds in Shelbyville, home of the World Championships for Tennessee Walking Horses, and meet trainers, riders and staff at a working horse farm.
• Explore the Jack Daniel’s registered distillery, oldest in the U.S., with an opportunity to taste Tennessee’s most renowned sippin’ whiskey.
• Meet an accomplished Nashville musician, learn how to create your own country music song, and go backstage at the Grand Ole Opry House to see what happens behind the scenes.

Program Notes

The focus of this program is the broad scope of Nashville’s history, heritage, and popular culture. We include a field trip backstage at the Grand Ole Opry House, a show, and meeting a songwriter, but this program is not primarily about the music scene. Other Road Scholar programs focus on music and if that is your main interest, we encourage you to take those programs.

Activity Notes

Walking of up to a mile on sometimes uneven terrain. May have walks through some dirt and grass paths.
