Road Scholar
Program #7235ENZ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Explore 400 years of Virginia’s history and horticultural beauty as you visit homes and gardens during Historic Garden Week, America's oldest and largest statewide house and garden event. Learn about garden designs ranging from formal 18th-century terraces to backyard habitats, boxwood mazes and “secret” gardens. Experience superb flower arrangements created by members of The Garden Club of Virginia, with emphasis on colorful seasonal flowers and native plants.

Highlights

• Explore homes and gardens in Colonial Williamsburg and join an expert to learn about the beautifully landscaped grounds of the College of William & Mary.
• Travel back in time at several Tidewater plantation homes, some only open during this week, that span the 17th to 19th centuries.
• Learn firsthand from Master Gardeners about the work of the Garden Clubs of Virginia and their efforts to preserve and reconstruct Virginia's rich gardening heritage.

Activity Notes

Considerable walking on uneven brick streets, along with grass, dirt or pebble paths.

Coordinated by Road Scholar.
