Program #7744ENZ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderately Challenging
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Learn by doing as you pitch in with staff at the Jamestown-Yorktown Foundation to maintain its museum sites, which host hundreds of thousands of students and other visitors each year. The Foundation operates two living-history museums — the Jamestown Settlement and the Yorktown Victory Center — that interpret 17th- and 18th-century life. In addition to a variety of work, enjoy a fascinating field trip or lecture each day.

Highlights

• During your service time, weave a reed mat that will cover an Indian yehakin, stitch the trim onto a Colonial garment or help with upkeep of the grounds.
• Enjoy a lively presentation by a talented musician as he plays and explains a variety of 18th-century instruments, both familiar and unique.
• Investigate the life of a private Revolutionary soldier and what are, by modern standards, the sometimes rather-alarming medical practices of Colonial times.

Activity Notes

Work 5-6 hours a full day, 2-3 hours a half-day; indoors and out.
