Road Scholar
Program #5831ENZ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Program intended for grandchildren from 9 - 12 years of age.

Create memories you’ll never forget — show your grandchild the Grand Canyon for the first time! Arrive on the South Rim via the historic Grand Canyon Railway with a train “robbery” en route. At this world wonder, hike a canyon trail, watch for California condors, and explore canyon geology. Plus, travel through the Navajo Reservation and visit secluded Walnut Canyon National Monument’s prehistoric cliff dwellings.

Highlights

• Raft the Colorado River beneath 800-foot towering sandstone cliffs, then explore Lee’s Ferry, the “Mushroom Rocks,” and the Navajo Bridge high above this mighty river.
• Participate in a Challenge Course with both low and high elements, such as a thrilling free fall to the “Giants Swing,” and build a survival shelter in ponderosa forest.
• Before a two-hour train ride to the South Rim of Grand Canyon National Park, enjoy a western shoot-out show, then on the train help the sheriff capture the bandits.
Due to the nature of this program, listening devices are not available.

Activity Notes

Walking up to two miles a day. Ability to step in, out of raft. Elevatons of 7,000 feet.

Coordinated by Northern Arizona University.
