Backpack the Grand Canyon from rim to rim. Encounter streams and waterfalls, secret groves and majestic scenery every day. Trek through five life zones and half of earth’s history as you backpack 24 breathtaking miles from the heights of the rim to the Colorado River and Phantom Ranch below and up the other side.


Camp four nights under the stars below the canyon’s rim and experience the wonders of the Inner Canyon.
Spend a day along the Colorado River at historic Phantom Ranch while exploring the canyon’s Inner Gorge.
Learn on the trail from seasoned wilderness instructors.

Program Notes

Hike permits acquired four months before start date. Dates may shift. Call Road Scholar before reserving air.
Due to the nature of this program, listening devices are not available.

Activity Notes

Strenuous hiking 5-8 miles a day with packs weighing 30-35 pounds at elevations of 2,400-8,200 feet; elevation changes of 1,400-4,200 feet; uneven, sometimes rocky terrain.
