Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
From the beginning of the Grand Canyon at Marble Canyon to the spectacular South Rim, discover the many and varied hiking opportunities in both of these spectacular locations. In Marble Canyon, the start of the Grand Canyon, escape the crowds and hike seldom-visited wilderness trails and see why many call this area the geologic “Center of the Universe.” Set at the base of the towering Vermilion Cliffs, Marble Canyon is a hiker’s paradise of red-rock canyons, mesas and buttes steeped in colorful history. At Grand Canyon National Park, marvel at jaw-dropping views as you descend into the canyon along the famed South Kaibab trail, where every step takes you back 60,000 years in time.

Highlights

• In Marble Canyon, hike and explore the mighty Colorado River from Lee’s Ferry and down into twisting and beautiful Cathedral Wash canyon.
• Mid-week, travel along the Echo Cliffs en route to the South Rim for a naturalist-led hike to a secluded and dramatic overlook on the rim.
• Naturalist guides will share their knowledge of the canyon and interpret the many facets of the canyon’s geologic, natural and human histories in the field.
Due to the nature of this program, listening devices are not available.

Activity Notes

Hiking up to six miles per day. Elevation loss and gain of up to 1,200 feet at Grand Canyon. Hiking location elevations between 3,000 to 7,000 feet. Come prepared to hike with proper equipment and in good physical shape through regular aerobic exercise. Hikes will be on both established trails and “off trail” routes with uneven terrain, high steps, desert vegetation and rocky areas. Hikes are usually conducted as one group with a hike leader and a sweep. See daily schedule for more detailed information.
