Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.
Hike beneath towering ponderosa pines, through fragrant stands of pinyon-juniper and around native yucca and agave as you venture along and below the rim experiencing the wonder that is Grand Canyon. From your hike along the rim at Hopi Point in the west to the Desert View descent of the Palisades in the east, to the fabled South Kaibab Trail below, you will see more of the canyon than you ever imagined. Naturalists provide insight to the canyon's epic geologic story and natural and human histories making this a week to remember.

Highlights

• Go off-the-beaten track on hikes both on the rim and into the Canyon’s depths.
• Experienced naturalists provide insights into what makes the Canyon so special.
• Enjoy a “challenge” hike into the Canyon on the famed South Kaibab Trail to Skeleton Point with Colorado River views. Shorter options available.

Activity Notes

Daily hikes of 3-6 miles. More challenging hikes by week’s end. Maximum elevation loss and gains of 1,200 feet. South Rim elevation 7,000 feet. Come prepared to hike with proper equipment and in good physical shape through regular aerobic exercise. Hikes will be on both established trails and “off trail” routes with uneven terrain, high steps, desert vegetation and rocky areas. Hikes usually conducted as one group with a hike leader and a sweep. Check Roadscholar.org for more detailed information (Program 6112).
