EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Description: The friendly and knowledgeable crew aboard ship thoroughly enjoy making you comfortable amidst the relaxed environment on board The Grande Caribe. Family-style meals, casual dress, and one common lounge ensure that everyone has a good time. The ship is chartered exclusively for Road Scholar; it is your home-away-from-home during the study cruise. The chefs and crew pride themselves on providing a 24-hour-a day self-serve counter in the dining room that's stocked with fresh fruit, hot and cold beverages, snack bars, and yummy freshly baked cookies and muffins. The dining room is often the site of a lively game of cards or an informal class on navigation, and the comfy lounge almost always has a jigsaw puzzle set up in a corner. Each cabin has a speaker system that you can turn off and on when you like, so if you feel the need for an afternoon snooze, you can retire to your cabin and listen -- or not -- to a lecture that might be going on in the lounge while you stretch out in private comfort.

Ship Information: The Grande Caribe is a comfortable, 3-deck American cruise ship bulit in 1998 with a unique design including a bow ramp. At 183' long by 40' wide, and cruising at 11 knots. Public areas linked by stairs include a dining room, lounge and sun deck. All cabins have air conditioning and small private bathrooms. Cabins differ in size, amenities and costs.

Room amenities: Cabins are clean and basic. Rooms are small because of the unique design of the ship -- it is the only commercial passenger ship (other than its sister ship, the Grande Mariner), that can transit the Erie Canal.

Facility amenities: All cabins are cleaned and freshened daily. The ship has a self-serve bar; guests are invited to bring their own alcoholic or nonalcohlic beverages aboard; a cooler is provided for chilling beverages. Set ups and mixers (club soda, tonic water, sodas) are available 24 hours a day from two small fountain dispensers. Please note that hairdryers and toilet articles (except bar soap) are not provided in the cabins.

Smoking policy: Yes
Smoking policies vary by facility. During all group events and activities, smoking is prohibited.
