This is a fantastic program. Stephen and Joy are warm, knowledgeable, accommodating and experienced hosts. The meals are delicious and the bike routes scenic.

Biking in Quebec and Vermont was lilke stepping back in time, riding through small towns and quaint villages past covered bridges and intense foliage. The beauty is spectacular. The accomodations in Glen Sutton were equally pleasing and the setting picturesque with a main building and front porch that facilitated evening wine and friendly conversation. The cooks were amazing and the food delicious without ever feeling overstuffed. The bicycle rides are rewarding but do provide ample challenge up the rolling hills. While the "average rides" are said to be about 25 miles per day, most of the rides are somewhat longer and more strenuous, but with the option to stop earlier and be in the vehicle.

The scenery was delightful, the food was nutritious, delicious and altogether the highest quality imaginable, the ride was challenging, and the weather was bad! The hosts were charming, and the lodge was exquisite

This is a terrific trip, with beautiful, moderately strenuous biking, a warm and friendly inn with great home-cooked food, and a wonderful, friendly, knowledgeable host.

My Road Scholar Biking trip # 2760 : Day Trips to Paradise was a fabulous experience.I would do it again in in a minute. Spectacular scenery biking within two countries on the border of Canada and VT, USA.

This was my first biking tour and I had a lot of fun doing it. Now I am looking for more. The location was beautiful, the host were great, the rides were exhilarating. I only started biking again last summer and had mainly stayed on rail trails so this was my first experience at long downhills and manageable climbs. Many interesting places to stop along the way too.

We had a wonderful time riding our bikes through the beautiful rolling terrain of Vermont and Quebec. It was a bit more challenging than the flatter landscape of our home, but it was certainly doable for us beginning - intermediate cyclists. Our hosts were so accomodating and the food and lodge were first rate. A must vacation!

The combination of exploring the beautiful countryside on a bicycle in the company of warm people and staying at a beautiful lodge with incredible hosts, could not have been better. It was truly a grand four days.

Our stay at Glenn Sutton Outdoor Lodge was perfect because our hosts treated us like we were family, only better! Biking and eating healthy and learning...what more is there? Let's not forget wineries, breweries, bakeries, creameries, egad, but we didn't gain weight!

This was our fifth trip since 2005 to Outdoor Lodge at Glen Sutton. Yes we enjoyed each visit! Many guests ask us why do we come back. Joy and Stephen are gracious hosts. The bike rides change from year to year and they consider the needs of each cyclist. The food is fresh, healthy & terrific. Your days are made even better by wonderful and helpful staff. When we left this year many of the guests said - Now we know why you keep coming back! Philip Neuer & Nettie Hauck - Rochester NY

We were sad to leave this program. Stephen and Joy did everything to make sure everyone was comfortable. Coming from Australia we did not know the area, had not anticipated border crossings and did not have bikes. All was accommodated - even me being under 5 foot -I arrived to find a bike to fit me. We were not avid riders but the routes accommodated our different levels. Throughout the week we had wonderful accommodation and amazing meals. While the cycling is definitely "moderately challenging" the care taken is expert and the trip is very worthwhile. Thanks so much Joy and Stephen for a fantastic week.

This was a great trip starting with Joy and Stephen who were our hosts and ride coordinator. The Lodge was extremely nice and hospitable. The Food and Staff were terrific. There were 18 people in our group and we had a great time, excellent (sometimes scary) bike rides and lots of laughs! What more can you want? Keep up the great work Joy and Stephen!

I had always wanted to bike in the St Lawrence River and Vermont area. Doing this bike trip gave me the opportunity to see the great fall leaves, drive across covered bridges, sample French/English Quebec and Canadian culture, and meet many wonderful Americans from all across the country. The biking was suited to my ability coming from a flat land terrain and having no experience with hills. The trip was adjusted so I could do it and learn to bike and gain confidence in a variety of different conditions. This was just what I wanted and thank you to the group that made this possible. A great learning experience! Evelyn from Winnipeg Canada.

The bicycling routes were beautiful and the roads in very good shape. Vermont motorists are very tolerant and polite to cyclists, which we are not used to in our home town. The week in Glen Sutton was a lot of fun.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this program. We had a different ride each day which combined both gentle rolling terrain,a few challenging climbs, and some exciting downhills. Stephen and Joy were welcoming hosts who entertained us with fine dining in their home. I have lactose and gluten issues which were seamlessly accommodated with no loss of meal quality. The staff members were pleasant and helpful. The evening programs were interesting and varied. We both would give this program 5 stars.

A great biking experience with great Host and Hostess and a nice variety of people. The Schoolhouse was very interesting and the cool pool with the resident frog great after the rides. Of course that part of the country is beautiful with the mountains and farms and woods.

This was my first Road Scholar trip but won't be my last. Stephen and Joy were perfect hosts, and every detail was thought of. They made everyone feel welcome. The staff was friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. Dietary restrictions were considered at every meal. The biking was awesome and different routes were available for cyclists of all levels. The people I met were very interesting and so nice and friendly. I look forward to planning another trip!

This is the third time I have been on this trip. I would highly recommend it. Each time it gets better, excepts for the leaders who have remained superior. Stephen and Joy's ability to lead and encourage the group to get acquainted is a gift not all leaders have. I hope to return a few more times before I retire my bike1!

Just finished the Day Trips to Paradise....on the positive, the food was good, fresh, beautiful scenery, and interesting daily events and other participants. On the negative, beware of the leased accommodations that are not in walking distance at night from the main lodge...they are substandard as compared to the main building...ask to be housed in the main lodge or the outer building in the back of the main lodge but not the leased building. Bicycle safety was inadequate for new or inexperienced bikers.

Road Scholar's response:
The Outdoor Lodge and program staff have received nothing but stellar reviews and comments from past participants. The site operator's have continued to do an outstanding job for many years and he does a fantastic job with it

My husband and I just completed the five-day biking program "Biking Day Trips to Paradise" in Eastern Townships, Quebec. We had a thoroughly delightful time. The participants were fun to share the week with, the bicycle trips were challenging, varied, and scenic, and staff took great care with the transportation and informational materials. The accommodations were fine and the food was excellent (they prepared vegetarian meals for us that were delicious). We loved the bike trips and were only sorry that one day was rained out. I would recommend this to any serious biker without hesitation.

What an excellent week of cycling!
All but one of us took advantage of the bike rental option. While some brought their own bike helmets, the rest of us used those provided. Although some bike bags are available, if you have a small one that fits on the rear carrier, it may be helpful to bring it along.
We were a small group so we tended to ride together for most of the time. Joy and Stephen accompanied us, one on a bike and the other driving the van. The van was always close by in case we needed help – we didn’t, but it was comforting to know it was there.
We cycled through the Eastern Townships around Glen Sutton as well as in Vermont. The routes were carefully planned, allowing us to zoom down the hills of quiet well-paved roads, gaining momentum to carry us at least part way along the ensuing up-slopes. We did indeed use all of our gears! Included in our excursions were small villages, rural general stores and unique museums. We saw covered bridges and even visited the new Louis Garneau store.
Joy and Stephen were outstanding hosts (10+), providing us with excellent accommodations and gourmet meals. Nothing seemed to be too much trouble for them. Ginette’s evening musical concert near the end of the week was also a memorable highlight.
