I thoroughly enjoyed this trip. Fellow members were all very friendly. The trip leader and guides were experienced, helpful, and provided useful tips. The scenery was beautiful and we kyacked on a variety of lakes and the local river. The staff were helpful and friendly and the food was excellent. I also enjoyed to evening programs, especially a beautiful concert given by a talented staff member in a local church. I highly recommend it.

French Canada is a very pleasant experience. Having no previous kayaking experience the staff remained patient and supportive even while I was consistently the slowest kayak on the lake. I was pleased that the program included the right kind of extra activities..ice cream, tiki bar, and a completely unexpected concert by a very talented member of the staff. The after dinner briefing on Quebec history was much appreciated. And the food..you will not find better on any comparable trip. Recommended!

This experience provides a set of memories to savor as you return to daily life. Glen Sutton, a sweet spot of southern Quebec, plunks you down in a small slice of France, and yet it's marvelously close to the US. Stephen and Joy, the owners of this woodland lodge, are knowledgeable, competent, and welcoming, and they've put together a talented and friendly support staff. It's true that kayakers of all ages and abilities are welcome and supported, each one learning as much as they are able to absorb during these five days. As a total novice, I'm looking forward to other kayaking experiences and a return to Glen Sutton.

Run! Do not walk to sign up for this program! Two years ago, as a beginner with some experience, I gave this program a glowing review after I completed it for the first time. The program features beautiful and varied water, thoughtful and attentive instruction, and wonderful food prepared by talented and creative chefs. The program is suitable for any kayaker, from adventuresome beginner to experienced devotee. If you've attended this program before, you'll enjoy it a second time and have the pleasure of anticipating the return to familiar waters that are always different, yet the same. As for me, I think the third time may really be the charm!

I participated in the kayaking in southern Quebec and northern Vermont program for the second time because I really enjoyed my experience in 2012 when I was relatively new to kayaking. This year's experience more than met my high expectations. Stephen conducts an excellent and varied program. I enjoyed the variety of kayaking experiences on lakes, marshes and rivers. The marshes in Lake Brome and the incredibly scenic Lake Willoughby were highlights of the week. Additionally, I learned new techniques for kayaking on rivers when we paddled up the Missisquoi River that included two sets of minor rapids. Tips and suggestions provided by Stephen and the other guides in 2012 have gradually made more and more sense over the intervening two years as I improved in my kayaking skills. This year some of the advanced techniques that they discussed finally made sense since I had reached a level where I was able to apply them. I felt more like a friend or guest in Joy’s and Stephen’s home rather than Road Scholar participant. The accommodations in Glen Sutton seem like a Bed and Breakfast, and the food is superb (gourmet quality). Joy plans a variety of delicious meals that are far superior to any other Road Scholar program that I have been on. She and her cooking staff are meticulously attentive to individual food restrictions while planning appealing menus. The entire staff, from guides to kitchen crew, are very competent, extremely enthusiastic and genuinely friendly. Evenings were filled with interesting lectures plus a wonderful vocal concert by Ginette, a local talent who also happens to be one of the fantastic chefs.

I participated in this kayaking program for the second time because I really enjoyed my experience in 2012 when I was new to kayaking. This year's experience lived up to & surpassed my expectations. Stephen conducts an excellent program, combining group & individual instruction while guiding participants throughout the day. The other guides and instructors, Ludger and Michael, share Stephen's enthusiasm for kayaking & for helping participants to improve their skills whether they are novices or experienced. Each day is a new adventure with a variety of kayaking experiences on lakes, marshes and rivers. Lake Brome offers a nature viewing opportunity of marshland with birds & wild flowers as well as kayaking along the shoreline. Lake Willoughby is the most beautiful lake I have kayaked on, with steep hillsides & pristine, clear water that is perfect for practicing skills that involve being in the water as well as in a kayak. Lake Memphremagog is always a challenge since its sheer size can create its own weather pattern. The Missisquoi River provides opportunities to learn or practice new skills such as ferrying across an eddy, or dodging sandbanks & fallen trees. The accommodations in Glen Sutton seem like a Bed & Breakfast or staying with friends. Joy plans delicious meals with healthy food choices that are more gourmet than any other Road Scholar program I have been on. She & her cooking staff are most attentive to individual food allergies while planning appealing menus. Evenings were filled with interesting lectures on healthy living as well as an insightful discourse on the political history of Canada plus a delightful concert by Ginette, a local soprano who also happens to be one of the fantastic cooks. If you are looking for a stimulating kayaking experience during the day, combined with scrumptious food at breakfast, lunch & dinner - sign up for this kayaking program. Perhaps I'll see you there on one of my repeat programs in the future!

As a total novice we were a bit nervous but Steven, Michael and Lodger were great instructors. Each day we felt more confident. The last and most challenging day was filled with first time accomplishments. Then to end the day with a fabulous meal was heaven. What a great experience!

This kayaking trip is superb. The accommodations and the food were outstanding. The hosts, Stephan and Joy, as well as their staff were gracious, talented and possibly the best group I have met on my 6 RS trips.

Robert from Chevy Chase, MD Number of programs attended: 3

This program offers a variety of somewhat challenging kayaking experiences for both novices and seasoned paddlers. The instructors are knowledgeable and attentive to the needs of the program participants. This was my third RS kayak trip within the past year, and they have all met my expectations. Don't let your age, experience or physical abilities discourage you from doing this program.

This is a great program that offers varied kayaking experiences with an opportunity to improve or learn new kayaking skills via Stephen's excellent instruction. Mikael assisted on this trip and he was also an excellent instructor. It's a fun, active vacation with great food and interesting evening programs. We enjoyed the entire time. Thank you Joy and Stephen.

Jane from Columbia, SC Number of programs attended: 3

This program was very good and I really enjoyed it. As a novice kayaker, I got plenty of instruction and practice in a variety of scenic settings. It is a lovely area, and we had fine accommodations with delicious, nutritious, and beautiful food prepared in-house. I also enjoyed the opportunity to learn about the history and culture of the area, visit a local monastery and hear a wonderful concert by a local soprano.

Another outstanding Road Scholar program with Joy and Stephen in Glen Sutton, Quebec! Although I canoe, this was my introduction to kayaking but now I feel confident to be able to go kayaking with my friends at home. Great instruction covering a wide variety of skill levels, a chance to try out different solo kayaks, obvious concern for safety as well as excellent meals and accommodation.

This is an outstanding Road Scholar program. The kayaking experience on each of the five days was excellent. Glen Sutton, Quebec is a very remote but delightful location. The food and its presentation are of Gourmet quality. The leadership of the program was exceptional.

As Mitch and Gewen report, this was a great opportunity to kayak in several locations, under different conditions. We were encouraged to try different kayaks on each trip, thus improving both our confidence and our skill level. Stephen and Ludger gave us excellent one-on-one kayak instruction, while Joy, Ginette, Ann and Debi saw to our day-by-day logistics and fed us wonderfully. A really worthwhile and enjoyable week!

Mitch from Glenwood, NY Number of programs attended: 0

The opportunity to kayak a different location each day was exhilarating. I consider myself an intermediate kayaker. The kayaking instruction took my paddling skills to a new level and has inspired me to continue my learning. The program instructors and staff were knowledgeable, skilled, patient, and friendly. In addition to group instruction, I also received individual tutoring. Great food and accommodations.

For our first Road Scholar program, we could not have been happier. Everything was wonderfully done--expert kayak instruction, beautiful paddling locations, delicious and healthy meals, lovely accommodations, interesting and entertaining evening programs, and much more. Our hosts Stephen and Joy ran the program seamlessly and the supporting staff was warm, friendly, and always helpful. Highly recommend!
