This is a very interesting and informative program. The chance to see wildlife in the wild - and especially to get close looks at grizzly bears and Orcas, as well as stellar sea lions and harbor seals - was great. The tours added immensely to the experience: salmon fishery, clam "farm", wildlife recovery center, shellfish research center. Nature walks in volcanic Beacon Hill Park and other locales were fascinating. I highly recommend this trip for outdoor- and nature-lovers!

A wonderful educational expedition. Learned a great deal and saw a great deal. Humpbacks, Killer Whales, a variety of seals, and the highlight was grizzlies fishing for salmon (as close as I would want to be to bears in the wild---great viewing!). If you are interested in Native people of North America you meet and learn about their lives on this trip. This experience was enhanced and enriched by our wonderful guide, Kathy "Kat" Cambell. Kat was knowledgeable, personable, attuned to the needs of the group and to the needs of individuals. She made the journey a great one. If you choose this r=trip, just remember, it rains quite a bit in the Northwest. We had some rain but also some beautiful days. Overall a very very good experience. Loved it!

Be sure to bring your camera and your binoculars. Great photo opportunities.

From the group leader Kat to the lecturers and field naturalists down to the volunteer tour guides at the wildlife rehabilitation center, all of the personnel involved in the program were passionate about their work and about the preservation of the natural environment. Their enthusiasm and their desire to share their knowledge with us were infectious. The program that Jim, the owner of the tour company, had put together was varied and well thought out. To my surprise, I found aspects, such as the walk in the old growth forest, almost as interesting as viewing the grizzly bears, which had been the original reason for signing up for the program. I felt that the lecturers were very successful in providing new information in a clear, concise and comprehensible manner, which was, of course, very important since their audience was not a group of experts in the field. And lastly, I was very impressed by the wide selection of options for lunch and dinner.

As a first-timer, I found my Road Scholar experience to be very satisfying in all aspects. And, it was educational, too!

I just completed the Enchanting Wilderness of Coastal British Columbia. Overall it met all of my objectives of seeing Grizzly Bears in the wild and seeing up close the inside passage of British Columbia and Vancouver Island. We even got to see the Ripple Rock area. The guide was very knowledgeable about the native First Nations culture and the environmental concerns of the area. The museums were excellent and staffed by dedicated docents who are truly committed to sharing the culture. The wildlife experiences were varied from grizzly bears, orcas and other marine life, and raptors up close in a wildlife rehab center. This program would be particularly interesting to those who are concerned about environmental issues and those who want to learn about First Nations culture.

Superb guides, fascinating lectures, beautiful scenery, sightings of humpback, orcas, black bear and eagles--any of these would have been enough to make this a memorable trip, but much more was packed into our eight days on Vancouver Island. It was our first Road Scholar adventure and if other trips are only half as inspiring as this one, we eagerly look forward to enrolling in as many as possible.
