This trip is fabulous and it far exceeded my expectations.. I learned a lot about New Zealand and its very diversified, in that you are learning something new everyday.

Linda from Newberg, OR Number of programs attended: 1

A wonderful program executed marvelously. You will get a good understanding of NZ's culture, geology, flora, and fauna and history and be overwhelmed by it's beauty.

Marc from Columbia, SC Number of programs attended: 5

An outstanding experience in virtually every aspect. My fourth Roads Scholar multi day event and by far the best. Learned much about an area of the world that I knew little of prior to going. The physical beauty of New Zealand was inspiring. The countries history, topography and geology is fascinating and presented well by all the instructors and our group leader. Albert Sword is the best! He made our tour very special. His ability to handle all situations with a smile and wonderful sense of humor and irony contributed greatly to making this trip a very special experience. Through Albert's leadership the 24 participants in our tour came together as a group and had a much better overall experience then we might have had. Ann and I celebrated our 47th anniversary on this trip, it became a very special one that will live in our memories a long time.

This was our first Road Scholar trip. Not only was it an amazing trip that we'll always remember, but it made us understand why the Road Scholar educational approach is so valuable. If we'd traveled to New Zealand on our own we would have missed some or much of the understanding of NZ's history, society and people that added to our enjoyment. Traveling with a small group, wonderful program leaders and great tour guides was very rewarding.

Barbara from Placitas, NM Number of programs attended: 3

A fabulous trip in every way. What we did, saw, learned, and ate could not be improved. Our tour coordinator Albert Sword added so much in every way through his enthusiasm, competence, knowledge, sense of humor, and all around positive attitude. Our lecturers transmitted their expertise so well; the bus drivers did so much more than drive; the food was gourmet quality. Highest recommendation: I'd do it again - if Albert leads us!

New Zealand is a beautiful country. My trip was very educational, and I learned more about New Zealand than expected. This was a trip of a lifetime.

Ralph from Sister Bay, WI Number of programs attended: 5

Kathy and I found New Zealand to be a beautiful country with diverse climate and geography; friendly people and amazing food. Our group leader was knowledgeable, personal and helpful. Wish the United States and New Zealand were closer!

Phillip from Gainesville, FL Number of programs attended: 15
Date attended: 05/14/15 - 05/26/15
New Zealand was a bucket list item for us and RS hit it out of the park in balancing scenery, culture exposure, and learning about New Zealand. The country was far more beautiful than expected, was clean and safe and the people were very friendly. Our tour leader Albert Sword was the best we have ever had and was a very positive catalyst in enhancing our New Zealand experience. We highly recommend this tour!

Joseph from Gainesville, FL Number of programs attended: 13

Small compatible group of 24, knowledgeable instructors Gordon McLauchlan and John Walsby, experienced site coordinators Peter Ackroyd and Liz Cruickshank, entertaining historian Margaret Copland, coupled with humorous/helpful/patient/brilliant Albert Sword (and a beautiful country)made this perhaps the best RS ever.

Sally from Oro Valley, AZ Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 05/14/15 - 05/26/15
We learned so much and visited so many diverse parts of a beautiful country - New Zealand. The instructors were very knowledgeable and the tour leader Albert was phenomenal. In order to cover so much territory you will spend a lot of time on planes and buses. All in all a very enjoyable program.

David from Oro Valley, AZ Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 05/14/15 - 05/26/15
New Zealand is well worth the discomforts of a LONG plane trip to get there. Much more lush Green vegetation than I expected. Geothermal fields and the boat adventures on both Arkaroa Bay and Milford Sound spectacular. Everyone should do this trip.

Alice from Bluffton, SC Number of programs attended: 7
Date attended: 05/14/15 - 05/26/15
This was a marvelous trip - We were on the 5/14 - 5/26 trip and the weather was cool in the north and cold in the south, but with warm gloves, hats, and boots, and lots of layers, we were fine. Also since it was not the peak tourist season we were able to enjoy the various venues without being mobbed. Would highly recommend this if New Zealand is on your list. And if you are lucky enough to have Albert Sword as your group leader you will have an unforgettable trip.

James from Norcross, GA Number of programs attended: 2

I particularly enjoyed New Zealand's Autumn. In addition to cooler weather there were less crowds at popular sites and the snow on the mountain tops greatly added to the beauty of the South Island. Our leader and the local guides were exceptional.

Charles from Charleston, WV Number of programs attended: 4
Date attended: 04/03/15 - 04/15/15
This is a good survey trip that packs a lot into a few days. Memorable sights and excellent lectures are pluses. Spending a lot of time in transport is a minus, although New Zealand is sparsely populated with limited transportation infrastructure.

Marian from St Charles, IL Number of programs attended: 7
Date attended: 04/03/15 - 04/15/15
This was a great program and the leaders were terrific. Our big regret was that we missed Milford Sound due to early snowfall (mid April). i would consider the time of year in booking.

This was our 2nd RS trip, and we're very glad we took it! We're already planning a return trip to NZ, because this experience was so wonderful! People we met, places we went, and adventures we had were absolutely tremendous! Thanks, Road Scholar!

Great exposure to all aspects of New Zealand. Very informative guides and instructors.

BAIT & SWITCH: if you want a small group tour, this is not for you. Road Scholar says that this will be under 24 people but put us together with an Australia/NZ group bringing us to a total of 36 which is not what we signed on for. So, buyer beware!

Chris from Santa Monica, CA Number of programs attended: 3
Date attended: 01/03/15 - 01/15/15
This trip provided a,great overview of the history, natural wonders and culture of New Zealand. It included opportunities to view natural wonders like Milford Sound, visit museums and historical sites, walk in magical places provided by nature and to meet and learn about both the Maori and Pakeha histories and sociology. I combined this trip with "Walking Clean and Green in New Zealand" and had the best 5 traveling weeks of my life. All our leaders , instructors and drivers were personable and knowledgeable, and the group formed an almost instant camaraderie leading to an exchange of e-mail info withpromises to share pictures.

We were amazed at the beauty of New Aealand. We could never have a better guide, Albert, or director, Errol. They knew the answers to everything we asked and had lots of fun with everyone. Don't miss this trip, it is worth every penny.

Jo Ann from Oxnard, CA Number of programs attended: 5

I thoroughly enjoyed this trip and learned a lot about the beautiful country of New Zealand. The guides were great and we saw so much in less than two weeks. I'd like to return to New Zealand after this trip

Harry from Peachtree City, GA Number of programs attended: 3
Date attended: 03/16/14 - 03/29/14
All of the hotels were in the Copthorne chain, and were 2 or 3 star hotels, with A/C and heat that didn't work properly in Auckland, A/C that didn't exist at all in Wellington, old, dingy sheets and towels in Rotorua, and only 20 of free internet each day in all hotels. Other than the poor lodging, the tour was OK. But we had rented a car the 2 prior weeks and driven around the North Island, and found that experience better than the tour.

Robert Donnell from Oro Valley, AZ Number of programs attended: 3

New Zealand is like a collection of national parks all close together. Wonderful experience, welcoming population, very educational; great temptation to return!

Everyone I talked with before the trip said that New Zealand is Beautiful and the people are welcoming. They were right. We probably could have seen more, but the trip was perfectly paced. A Kiwi friend even commented on how clever it was to go through Invercargil to get to Milford Sound, then to Queeenstown. Otherwise it would have meant many more hours on a bus.

Jane from Windsor, CO Number of programs attended: 5

This program is a great chance to visit a country with interesting people and incredible scenery. I had always wanted to visit New Zealand and doing so with Road Scholar was rewarding because of the educational aspect of the trip.

Julia from Charlotte, NC Number of programs attended: 4

This Road Scholar trip to New Zealand exceeded my expectations. The sites we visited were most interesting and varied. Leadership was dynamic and knowledgeable. I learned a tremendous amount and had a ton of fun doing it!!

Robert from Huron, OH Number of programs attended: 1

In the past, I have been turned off by guided tours where a bus driver narrated a memorized script. Roads Scholar makes the travel easy while providing guides who are experts in their own right and are, in themselves, life-long learners.

Nancy from Huron, OH Number of programs attended: 1

Experiencing New Zealand through this program is a real treat. This trip was delightful as it educated everyone about the effects of geology upon the landscape, the various aspects of thelife of its citizens, and the history of New Zealand's Maori culture. Be immersed in the life of the people who "tamed" this country as well as those who call it their home now. New Zealand may be the last great hidden treasure and this is a wonderful way to experience it.

Kenneth from Corea, ME Number of programs attended: 1

This New Zealand program provides a super, in depth opportunity to see most of the country. The scenery is spectacular, the people are friendly and engaging, the education on the country and peoples is impressive, and the overall experience couldn't have been better. Our group was friendly and by the end had become a real community. The leaders/lecturers were dynamite. I learned so much more than I expected, all the while seeing incredibly beautiful landscapes.

This is an awesome trip. I hightly recommend it.

Anne from Farmington Hills, MI Number of programs attended: 7

New Zealand Odyssey is one of the best trips I've ever taken, with Road Scholar or otherwise. An in-depth introduction to a spectacular country. The itinerary is so good that our Kiwi friends couldn't think of anything important that we missed!

Linda from Hartsburg, MO Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 09/22/13 - 10/05/13
This was an amazing trip to the North and South Islands of New Zealand. We learned so much about New Zealand culture, geology, ecology, and people in a short 12 days time. The program was facilitated by bright, enthusiastic leaders and lecturers. And we learned interesting things from our travel companions, many of whom we'll stay in contact with because of shared experiences. This program whetted our appetite for additional travel - and especially for travel with such a reputable group as Road Scholar!
