Great way to learn about Williamsburg and how they celebrated Christmas.

This is a very enjoyable program with a good mix of talks (including some fun interactive ones), performances, field trips, and guided tours of Colonial Williamsburg and several nearby plantations. We were fortunate to have a week of sunny and unseasonable warm December weather, and as with all RS programs, the other participants were a fun and interesting group. The hotel is over a mile from the Williamsburg attractions, and therefore it is difficult to make good use of your “free time” unless you have your own car or can team up with other participants who do have cars. We ate all but one of our meals in the hotel dining room, and while the food was reasonably good, it would have been nice to have a choice of entrees at dinner. If possible, program participants might want to consider coming a day early or staying a day late in order to explore nearby Yorktown and Jamestown, the other two areas in the Historic Triangle. I have some pictures and comments about the program posted at https://williamsburgroadscholar.shutterfly.com.

This is good if you are specifically interested in the Christmas traditions of the Virginia colonial and civil war period, with a general interest in colonial Williamsburg and the plantations. If you don't care that much about the Christmas traditions part, choose another tour, such as the one combining Williamsburg with Jamestown and Yorktown.

Complimentary newspaper promised by the Fort Magruder hotel, but they had about a dozen for 300 rooms, and no provision to even buy one. Buffet lunch was on intro brochure, but was not provided.
