If visiting cities that are tourist meccas has convinced you that dealing with long lines and crowded sites is not for you, consider this tour that visited places I had literally never heard of (e.g Gradara, San Leo, Dozza) as well as secondary cities like Urbino and Ravenna. No crowds but very rewarding experiences.

This program deserves the highest recommendation. The area and historic sites were beautiful and very interesting and the learning experience was top-notch. The tour was perfectly organized and the trip leaders and guides very competent and kind.

My husband and I highly recommend this program. Our hotels were wonderful, especially the first from which we had an outstanding panoramic view. We ate well (too well!), our guides and lectures were excellent, and thanks to Road Scholar we were able to visit extraordinary places thaat are off the beaten track. Silvia and Domenico deserve special mention, because they were among the best leaders we've ever had, and Gerald and I have each been to over 200 Elderhostels.

It you enjoy visiting medieval villages and renaissance palaces that are off the beaten path, you may enjoy this tour. The guides are excellent, as is the food (the lunches and dinners are four courses with unlimited wine). Downside, average 3 hours of bus time a day getting to day trip, very limited free time. Would have appreciated some lectures targeted toward current events in Italy, but it was 100% ancient history.

Northern Italy's Renaissance Palaces and Medieval Villages was a wonderful trip -- we saw wonderful walled towns, castles, Palladian Villas, magnificent mosaics in Ravenna. The leaders were well organized, thoughtful, helpful, and enthusiastic. My only complaint that there was too much wonderful food!
