The interest in San Antonio continues to grow, and when you visit you will understand why! The atmosphere warm and Texas friendly, and you'll learn some things you never learned in your history books about this big, sprawling state that will make your head spin. The leader, Ginger, was always nearby and went the extra mile to be sure everyone had a good experience. The hotel is right downtown and a block from the Riverwalk. Our speakers were the best.

For those who want to learn more about Texas and specifically San Antonio this is a wonderful week. The city in flat and walkable. The beauty of the Riverwalk charmed all of us. A barge ride along the San Antonio River is a particularly pleasant way to enjoy the city. The Alamo lived up to its reputation. No wonder the Texans refer to it as a shrine. The tour guide, Ginger, is a wonderful addition. She is warm, helpful, and ever so competent. The speakers gave fact filled, entertaining presentations that made the whole community come alive. If you go, add a dish of the Menger Hotel's mango ice cream to your free time activities. You'll be glad you did.

What a delightful trip. The location of the hotel couldn't have been better for the River Walk. Make sure you bring a water bottle if you come during a heat wave though.

I enthusiastically join my fellow admirers of Road Scholar's San Antonio trip. It was superbly organized. Charming, classy Ginger Burkholder led us with savvy and could not have been more helpful and patient. The program was extremely interesting and well thought out and what can I say about the lecturers ? They were ALL brilliant, witty and fantastically informative. Already I am perusing the (many) brochures Road Scholar sends out and look forward to my next trip. Francoise Rambach

I attended college in Texas for 3 years, but never had the chance to visit San Antonio. I truly enjoyed the opportunity to visit the city and become absorbed in its' history with interesting characters who drove Texas into statehood, and the beautiful architecture of the missions and buildings. The guides & lecturers were fantastic. The River Walk was a scenic retreat from the busy city. Most of all I enjoyed all my fellow Road Scholar travelers; an inspiring and friendly group!!

It really was a "Wow" trip for me. My first Road Scholar and first in time to Texas. I will do more trips and some day I hope to go back to Texas.

Perfect location with easy access to River Walk, tons of Texas history presented in fun ways, excellent tour leader (Ginger) and local guides, good variety of group activities, and even free time to enjoy San Antonio. Bring your comfortable walking shoes...enjoy!

The program is terrific in all aspects. Even if you have visited San Antonio before you will learn so much, see more than you expect and come away feeling you want to return to this exciting place! At the end you will say as I did, "Can't we have another day or two, I am not finished seeing San Antonio?"

What a delightful time we spent in San Antonio recently. This historic city and all that it offers is definitely a Road Scholar signature city. A well organized and interesting agenda provided us insight to the history of the area. Excursions to the Alamo, Museums and Missions were just some of the highlights of this program. And for fun, a Mexican cooking demo. Definitely a must see if you wish to explore Texas history and culture.

I loved my experience, the people and the program in San Antonio. The hotel was gorgeous, the meals were fabulous, and the complimentary hospitality gathering provided by the hotel allowed us all free drinks and appetizers while chatting with new friends. Margie was fabulous, and my group was warm, bright, and super sweet to be around and share the excitement of San Antonio's history and charm. Fabulous journey, we had such fun !!

This was an excellent way to experience San Antonio. The balance between lectures and excursions and between indoor time and outdoor time was good; there was enough free time to do some independent exploring; our leader (Millie) and her assistants were well-organized, knowledgeable, and personable; and the other participants were super (something that Road Scholar can't control, of course, but maybe it's significant that really great people chose this particular program).

Barbara from Santa Rosa, CA Number of programs attended: 35

Some walking, okay for me, but way too much unnecessary standing.

Cindy from Grants Pass, OR Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 11/17/13 - 11/22/13
It was an immersion program that surrounded you with cultural and historical information daily. San Antonio is a very walkable and friendly city.
