First time as a "single traveler" and first time with Road Scholar. After comparing other tour programs, I chose this one because of the itinerary (especially the Via Australis and Torres del Paine portions) and the prior reviews. I had high expectations for the experience and they were all exceeded, thanks to the group leader, the other group members, and the well-chosen elements of the entire tour.

This was one of the best trips of the eight I have taken with Road Scholar. It far exceeded my expectations. Our excellent tour leader, Dr. Gabe Martin, was informative, attentive to details, funny, and fun to be around. The city tours of Buenos Aires (marvelous Tango show included) and Santiago were an excellent beginning and end to the Patagonian experience. The Patagonia highlights included the fantastic small ship experience with Zodiac trips to Cape Horn Park as well as up fjords to see magnificent glaciers, nesting Cormorants and to Magdalena Island to see the Penguins!! The land portion in Tierra del Fuego and Torres del Paine National Parks included wonderful hikes with super guides pointing out local flora and fauna. The stay at the Eco Camp was an experience in itself. Excellent! Don't miss this trip - it was fabulous!

We just returned from this trip and my husband immediately started looking for our next Road Scholar adventure. This one was fabulous. Our leader, "Doc Martin", could not have been more attentive, knowledgeable and organized and he had a great sense of humor. All the local guides were terrific, as were the accommodations and food. Wonderful hikes in the gorgeous Torres del Paine, exciting zodiac rides to beautiful glaciers as well as windy Cape Horn, and fascinating city tours in Buenos Aires and Santiago. Everything was perfect!

My wife Carole and I just got back from the Jan. 7, 2016 edition of this trip. WOW! I have only superlatives to describe the trip. Mr. Gabriel Martin was an exceptional trip leader. No detail escaped him. The Via Australis is the perfect size for a trip such as this and the staff and crew were well trained, polite and friendly. Ditto for the ship's officers. The scenery and daily trips both on the ship and at Torres del Paine were perfect. I'm out of superlative adjectives, so just do yourself a favor and book this trip.

The program, as a whole, was informative and interesting, especially Argentina and the cruise portions. Chile was less than delightful, except that the winery tour was very enjoyable.

Amazing trip -- our first with Road Scholar. Such a variety of wonderful experiences! Our guide, Horacio, was great: personable, relaxed, and engaging, but always keeping things going smoothly and going out of his way to be a helpful resource. The many local guides (and lectures) were great as well. (Especially Jean-Albert in Santiago and Sarah at the EcoCamp.) Some details and photos from our trip are on my website: http://www.visiblewind.com/content/travels/south_america.

This was one best trips I've ever taken. The cities of Buenos Aires and Santiago were great places to start and end the trip, but the highlights were our time on the ship (going onto Cape Horn and through the fjords and Straights of Magellan) and being in Torres del Paine National Park at the EcoLodge. Don't miss this trip - it was so different from what I expected.

This is one of the best RS trips we have taken. Our guide, Roman was competent and personable, and took excellent care of us. The staff on the ship and the local guides were equally competent and efficient. We were served excellent food, attractively presented at all meals. We came to experience the natural beauty, wildlife, and ecology of Patagonia; I will resist verbal reduction on that point. The lectures on the history and culture were an added bonus. We were a small congenial group of 10 who bonded instantly and had great camaraderie. Even the weather cooperated. We are still basking in the glow of the warm memories of the experiences we shared.

Finis Terra was an experience never to be missed. The landscape and scenery is picture perfect. We will not see this anywhere else but in South America - it is unique , the experience was just amazing! Horacio, our team leader was awesome. He did an excellent job with the 19 of us and he surely deserves a gold medal! The education and experience I gained is commendable. For the adventure lovers, the experience was just right. For Nature lovers -that too was something unique to the area. For Photographers - it was paradise on earth.

Great trip with a variety of experiences from cities to the very wild, uninhabited southern end of Chile and Argentina. Shipboard experience was exceptional with great service and well managed excursions. Weather better than expected and our group of 17 was very congenial including 5 singles and 6 couples from a variety of backgrounds, experiences, and locales. My 21st RS trip but certainly not my last!

Prior to this trip I had traveled independently in 36 countries. In addition, I had experienced two organized tours, one to Russia and one to India, not with Road Scholar. I found this particular trip wonderful! It was an excellent combination of two capitals, two national parks, very nice hotels, and the experience and atmosphere of staying at an eco camp, and viewing majestic scenery on board a small ship. The pace and size of the group were both perfect, and our leader, Horatio, good humored, knowledgeable, organized, and unflappable. I came home and immediately began to look for another Road Scholar trip! I leave in a few weeks for the next of what I am sure will be many more!

For me, this program has it all! Touring and learning about the beautiful cities of Buenos Aires and Santiago, a luxurious shipboard experience coupled with trips in the zodiac boats to see glaciers and penguins, a rustic eco experience in Torres del Paine with hiking and wildlife, and just the right balance of lectures and free time. I particularly enjoyed the museums, the tango show, seeing the glaciers and penguins up close, and the winery tour. The accommodations were 5-star in my opinion. The food was so well-presented and delicious that I took pictures of it. The group leader was excellent and there was just the right balance of educational experiences and free time. Grab your waterproof gear (for the zodiacs) and go for it!

Finis Terrae was one of the most interesting, beautiful and exhilarating travel experiences I've ever had. I am a Road Scholar veteran, and as usual, everything about the trip was well organized and our comfort carefully considered. Visiting Chile and Argentina, especially the Southern portions, is like traveling to a different culture. It is not "Americanized" in the way so many other areas are. I highly recommend this trip for anyone who wants to experience geology and nature at it's finest.

This was a wonderful trip, and Horacio Cavilli the best guide I have had on any trip. We did so much on this trip that I needed my photos to recall some of the events at the beginning of the trip. I had never been on any cruise, and was apprehensive about the 4 nights aboard the expedition vessel. However, with only 110 passengers and a busy daily schedule with morning and afternoon Zodiac excursions most days, and the opportunity to hike on shore, this was far from the Big Cruise experience. I even found I slept better with the gentle rocking of the boat--except for that rough night as we approached Cape Horn, and the plastic water bottles flew across the room. The cruise and the Eco Camp really made this an adventure. The wildlife seen on land and at sea was wonderful, and we had a much appreciated "birding" guide join us during our Eco Camp stay. Glacier Alley, albatrosses, the list of greats is too long to include. This was a "bucket list" trip for me, and exceeded my expectations.
