Walking in the Scottish Highlands is one of the two best vacations I have ever had. If you want to learn about history, culture, natural history, and many other subjects, join this tour. The food and the service are excellent, and you have ample opportunity to walk off the calories.

We so enjoyed our Scottish Highlands experience. The setting at Aigus was lovely, comfortable and stunning! Our quarters were cozy and comfortable. The food served was delicious and certainly ample. House Staff was friendly and accommodating as well. Field staff were energetic, welcoming, knowledgeable and fun. Hikes and countryside are perfect. We hiked about 4-6 miles daily. Be sure to wear hiking boots and waterproof them! Scotland is green and hence moist!! Rains come fast and furiously! Sir John and Lady Lister-Kaye were most gracious.

If like my husband and me, you enjoy the outdoors and enjoy being with likeminded people, this is the trip you've been looking for. Scotland is incredibly beautiful and the rangers of Aigas are the perfect guides to share it with you. Each hike was fantastic, without taking away from ones already done, for each day was a new and unique experience of its own. We were able to see a badger and pine marten from the comfort of an Aigas hide (blind), hike in bogs, glens, forests, and along an estuary with dolphins, seals, and sea glass. Yet every evening, we returned to well prepared meals and comfortable cabins. Sir John has created an oasis of what wild Scotland once was and can be again, and it was heartening to be a small part of that.

I really was amazed with this program. It went beyond my expectations. All was professionally organised and ran smoothly. If you like to hike and learn about the place you are visiting this is it. The group was small and we all got along well. The food was tailored for each individual preference. There was a level of " top notchness" that was understated and could easily have been taken for granted because it was done so seemingly effortlessly.

I am 69--in moderately ok physical condition--single. This was my first Road Scholar program and also my first venture overseas but will not be my last. It was perfect. Everything was taken care of for me--it was so easy. The Highlands Hiking program is absolutely excellent--Aigas is better than expected--loved every minute of this adventure and was just sorry to leave! Do it!!

Regarding the amount of hiking in this program: I attended the program in May 2015 and found they had "improved" it in response to feedback by significantly increasing the amount of hiking. This was fine except that I would have preferred being told in advance since I would then have brought hiking boots instead of hiking shoes, which were inadequate over the rough, very wet (several inches of water that went right over shoes) terrain. I would also suggest good rain pants and jacket since the rain and wind can be bitter. We got soaked even with our rain gear. I was sorry that a planned visit to a garden was cancelled for more hiking. I would also not recommend this trip for anyone allergic to dogs. There are only 2 dogs, but they were often in the dining hall, library and common sitting room. I had to use my asthma medication every day.

The week was wonderful for sightseeing. The accommodations were great. However, it was advertised as hiking and there was not much hiking.

Aegas is a wonderful place. They really go out of their way to ensure you have a good experience. The program really gives one a good opportunity to learn about the many different aspects of northern Scotland.

The learning experience of this program opened my eyes to both the beauty and the ecological problems of the Scottish Highlands. The incomparable style and knowledge of our host, Sir John Lister-Kaye, added immensely to the quality and content of this experience. The hospitality of Lady Lister-Kaye and her staff was exceptional. The field trips were excellent and varied and the optional activities provided ample opportunities to enhance the experience. This program is highly recommended.

The experience at Aigas was delightful. You will enjoy the exceptional meals and the very friendly atmosphere. The guides are experienced and welcoming. You will see many areas of northern Scotland and learn a lot about its culture and natural history. You will enjoy being in the hides (blinds) to look for animals. Overall, Scotland is beautiful and you will enjoy being there. However, if you think this is a hiking trip you should consult carefully with Road Scholar. My group was disappointed with the small amount of actual walking/hiking that we did.

This is an absolutely wonderful program! The Highlands are spectacular--and what you learn about them through lectures and hikes will surprise you and give you pause to reflect on your interaction with the natural world. Sir John and Lady Lucy will make you feel like an honored guest in their beautiful country home. The ranger guides are personable, enthusiastic, and highly-knowledgeable young people. During our trip, any differences in physical abilities between the guests were quickly and graciously accommodated, as were special food requests. And speaking of food, one of the (unexpected!) highlights of this trip: fabulous, gourmet-quality Highland meals served under the watchful eye of the ever-gracious Lady Lucy and her efficient staff. These incredible meals enjoyed in the Great Hall of the manor will be among your fondest memories.
