Program #4896RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderately Challenging
While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our time. Our hiking tour leaders were personable and knowledgeable. The scenery is outstanding, and the hikes were enjoyable. I highly recommend this program.

This is a terrific program. The hikes were just the right level of challenge for me ("moderately challenging"), the guides were knowledgeable and obviously loved what they were doing, and the other participants were great fun. As for the central Oregon Coast, incredible, unspoiled beauty.

I was dressed like the woman in the photo above: rain jacket, zip off pants, breathable hiking boots, hat. I was SOAKED the 1st day (rainy). Bring your serious waterproof pants, hat, and leather above ankle hiking boots for the beach walks in case of rain for the late Sept. date. Hiking poles are very helpful on the wet, steep trails. Bring 2 or more pairs of shoes/boots for the hikes. Coin operated washers/dryers are available at the hotel. Also, the lit. says 7 hikes, but it is more like 3 continuous hikes Mon-Wed., because the lunches are eaten in the field between the morn & aft hikes. You do not have a chance to opt out of a hike because you have no place to wait. You have to opt out of a whole day if either the morning or aft. hikes are not to you liking. This program is rated moderately challenging, but it was more challenging for me because I do not live near any hills. Some of the hikes are like walking over moguls in the forest, and some have considerable inclines and or/lots of steps. I really did not know what to expect, but am learning as I take more Road Scholar trips. You will love it if you hike regularly at elevation or in hills. The scenery is absolutely wonderful, as are the instructors.

I really liked this program. I found it to have the right mix of challenging and easier hikes for me. The leaders all know their subjects. I learned a lot. I definitely considered this program a "Best Value."

Five star ++++. This was my first Road Scholar trip but will not be my last. Everything about it was outstanding -- lodging, meals, and especially the trip leaders and activities. I had never been to the Oregon coast, and it was a wonderful introduction to the rain forests, beaches, flora and fauna. The trip leaders were all experts in their fields and did an excellent job. They set a very high bar for my next Road Scholar adventure!

Two thumbs up to everything about the program. Lodging and food were exceptional. Instructors were wonderful. Hikes were better than advertised. This is a 10+ program. This program is different from others Road Scholars Programs we have chosen in that we really had a chance to get to know the 22 others. We met as strangers on Sunday night and departed as close friends--new family--on Friday morning. :-) Sun City, AZ

For my first Road Scholar trip I was amazed at the quality of everything and hopefully will explore new trips in the future.

Unless you have experienced a Road Scholar Trip you will not be able to appreciate the thoughtfulness and attention in creating a positive experience.
