All in all, this was a good trip. The plusses: a small group of 15; the team leaders were strong; things were well organized; we saw what we were promised and learned a lot about the subject. The negatives: the omission of Ypres from the program when one extra day would had allowed a visit to this critical battle field (poor planning on RS's part); a few lackluster meals; Andrew's style of presenting leans heavily toward the factual/analytical--not dramatic or narrative, resulting in a less compelling emotional experience (assuming that's your preference); In fairness to him, he did bring a strong pathos to the memorial visits with the laying of wreaths and moments of silence. Be prepared for the fact that the battlefields have grown over, making it difficult to appreciate the horror and destruction that once occurred there. Take the trip. You won't be disappointed.

Pro's: excellent tour leaders; high tea on the Queen Mary; champagne lunch in Epernay; lectures by military historian and raconteur, Lt Andrew; dinners with fellow pilgrims; seeing the topology of famous battlefields - Somme, Verdun, Meuse-Argonne; wreath laying at American WWI cemeteries ("Whereof one cannot speak, thereof one must be silent") Con's: need to add 1 more day to visit Ypres - thank you Road Scholar

Audrey from Great Falls, VA Number of programs attended: 3
Date attended: 10/27/14 - 11/11/14
Find a program which might include Andrew Duff/Tom Craig as tour leaders

Carol from Lancaster, PA Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 07/27/14 - 08/12/14
The guides are Masters! The lectures are exciting and educational. A trans-Atlantic crossing on the QM2 is not to be missed. Walking the Battlefields/cemetery's make all the lectures come to life all the while developing camaraderie with other journeymen!

Robert from Waunakee, WI Number of programs attended: 11
Date attended: 07/27/14 - 08/12/14
This program offers really 3 parts. A visit to the 911 Memorial. A 7 or 8 day crossing of the Atlantic on the QM2 with daily outstanding lectures on WW1 which prepares you for what you are going see once you get to the third part, France. The only way one can understand the horror of that war is to see that the trenches and craters are still there 100 years later. The visits to the Memorials really bring home the great loss of lives that occurred.

Elaine from Volcano, HI Number of programs attended: 16
Date attended: 07/27/14 - 08/12/14
Before registering for a program, consider carefully the activity level stated. And remember that, somewhere along the line, you will have to carry your own luggage, so pack light!

Peter from Springfield, VA Number of programs attended: 11
Date attended: 07/27/14 - 08/12/14
For military history buffs as well as people who have relatives who fought in WW I, this trip should be high on their "bucket list".

Myra from New York, NY Number of programs attended: 3
Date attended: 07/27/14 - 08/12/14
Recommended for people interested in WW1 historically and militarily
