This was a fantastic program; it exceeded our expectations, by far. Richard Johnson, the lead instructor, was very knowledgeable and extremely patient. It was a good idea, alternating daily on the water between Richard and Jim Terkelsen, the waterfront director; they complemented each other's approach to sailing. Judy Clapp, the group coordinator, kept everything running smoothly and her personality made everybody feel comfortable and welcome. It was an asset that she is a sailor, herself. We were pleased that this was an intermediate sailing class, but this was noted on the web site by just an asterisk and a footnote. There should be separate listings for the Introductory and Intermediate classes. Both levels should be offered in the future. How about an Advanced class, including racing! The hotel room was satisfactory; we were so busy, we didn't even have time to take advantage of the pool and the grounds. The food at the hotel, however, was another story. The breakfast was adequate, but the dinners were poor. Lunch at the college was excellent and offered a lot of variety. Here are some suggestions for future sailing classes: 1) Have name tags that we could wear on the front and the back of our life jackets. During the on-water instruction, it's important for the instructor to be able to address students by name quickly. 2) Instead of a speaker each night, how about a sailing movie? Or Judy and Doug Clapp could talk about their 12 years of cruising adventures. 3) The copies of the charts we had on the boats would have been easier to read if they had been in color. This was an excellent program; it was perfect for us.

This is an excellent program for people with limited (or no) sailing experience. The instructors are very experienced, knowledgeable, and very relaxing and patient. The group coordinator is also excellent. I highly recommend this program.

This was a fantastic learning experience. The instructors and staff were professional. I would recommend this trip to anyone who would like to learn some basics on sailing even if you do not intend to by a boat.
