My husband and I thoroughly enjoyed this trip and I am amazed at how much we saw and did during our 13 days. We learned so much about the birds and plants and animals. Our guide Pedro Bosques was superb and our driver Omar as well. We had plenty of room on the bus for the 16 people in our group and the hotels and meals were all very good. Costa Rica is a beautiful unique country and well worth a visit. The people in our group just added to the fun!

What a fabulous trip! It was everything we had hoped it would be and made even better by our wonderful guide, Dee. We couldn't have asked for a better team leader and she was filling in for someone else at that! We enjoyed the diversity of activities and loved the wildlife.

Costa Rica is a very diverse country. It is small enough so that on a trip such as this one you are able to experience the essence of the diversity. Great trip!

This was my first guided tour and I was a little aprehensive. I'd traveled to many countries on my own, and was interested to see what the guided / group experience was like. I'm happy to report that it exceeded my expectations. In 13 days the group got to see a small but representative portion of Costa Rica's amazing diversity. Having the worlds best guide and excellent lectureres also added to the experience. Going with a small group worked well and we were all able to access and learn from our guide and instructors. The ability to see and experience nature close up helped understand what the country is trying to do with Ecotourism and they are to be commended. We saw over 125 bird species, many sloths and other interesting animals. I highly recommend visiting Costa Rica and going with Road Scholar.

Our trip to Costa Rica lived up to its advertising. It was educational and fun. We learned alot, experienced some beautiful parts of the country led by an excellent guide, Luis Vargas, and traveled with an excellent and safe bus driver through some interesting roads. The variation in the destinations was great - highlands, lowlands, oceans, volcanoes, rain forest and cloud forest. We got the maximum out of our 12 days together. And we were exposed to tons of animals, plants, and terrain. All and all - a photographer's dream! Thank you!

Veronica from Massachusetts Just returned from the "Exploring Natural Wonders" trip with Luis Vargas as our amazing tour guide. As Getta said, if you love exploring the natural world and having fun while you do it, this is the trip for you. The tropical rain and cloud forests were stunning - real jungle! The Caribbean and Pacific coasts were beautiful. The high mountains and the volcanoes brought even more diversity to the birds and animals and plants we saw. We travelled over a 12,000' range. There is time for other fun such as white water rafting. The lectures were always interesting and most were actually inspiring as people spoke about how they have worked over decades to protect and restore the wild life and the natural forests of Costa Rica. Small group. Very knowledgeable guide who was not only passionate about protecting wild life but also fun, entertaining and respectful and supportive to all members of the group. Loved this trip.

"The Best of Cost Rica: Exploring Natural Wonders".If you are interested in a trip with a variety of ecosystems, many chances to see birds, mammals, flowers, trees, etc. led by an exceptional leader and which includes great accommodations, food, educational content and the chance to meet the wonderful Costa Rican people, this trip is for you. Nothing is too strenuous for most folks of a certain age and you will learn a great deal. You will see two coasts, the cloud forest, the highlands and much more.

This program wa delightful, very interesting and educational, Roger was a well-informed, thoughtful, patient guide, accommodations were great, food was too good, and the program was just as described in the catalog, only better. If you are a birder, try to get Roger, oh, just try to get Roger for a guide whether you are a birder, or not.

The tour enriched my Costa Rican experience. If I had travelled on my own there are many things I would have missed seeing - especially flora, fauna and animals. I would also not have had as much knowledge about Costa Rica's history.

If you are interested in seeing all the birds, animals, and life zones that are possible in a country with unusual biodiversity, this is the trip for you.

Jette from Sequim, WA Number of programs attended: 4

I would highly recommend this trip if you are a nature lover and love watching birds, and animals. The places we visited were all unique in their own way. Many of the plants and animals were different in the varied locations. The river float was not as scary as you though it was going to be, and the various activities were interesting and fun. Just sign up - you will love it. 2 extra days in San Jose is enough though. It is a noisy and dirty citi.

This program exceeded my expectations. Our guide, Christian, was exceedingly warm, knowledgeable and helpful in every way. I was very impressed with the wealth of information he provided, and I have come away with a much better understanding of the flora, fauna and ecology of Costa Rica.

I agree with Pete and Francine. Pura Vida - Cristian was an excellent guide - very knowledgable about wildlife and the history of Costa Rica. Nice small group. Luis was a great and safe driver.

What a trip. We had 8 in our group and that made it special. Costa Rica is a special place. I can't say enough good things about our guide Cristian Gamboa. PURA VIDA! You will not regret signing up for this program.

This was my first Road Scholar program and it was an exceptional experience! Our group leader Gloriana is a warm, passionate, caring, knowledgeable, capable expert on Costa Rica and its natural and cultural history. Our skillful driver Chiri kept us safe in our very comfortable bus. The program locations were varied and fascinating, the wildlife was amazing, the guest lecturers were extraordinary and inspiring, and my fellow group members were a joy to travel with.

Fresh Pineapple beyond sweet, birds- the colors of dreams, greenery so lush, you ask yourself if this is reality. The landscape holds magic in the air, with clouds kissing the mountains, beauty so intense it's grabs you- this is Costa Rica.

Costa Rica really is an amazing place: hot, humid, lush, colorful, diverse and wonderful.  We spent time in the Caribbean Lowlands side, the Pacific Lowlands side, and at higher elevations. Because it’s close to the equator, the weather doesn’t change much throughout the year, and it’s always Spring as far as the flowers and vegetation goes.  The diversity and color help to make up for the humidity.  It really feels like paradise when walking around with spectacular vegetation, color, birds flying all over the place, howler monkeys howling, etc.  In Tortuguero we saw a late hatching of the Atlantic Sea Turtle babies making their way off the beach and into the water.  We saw Scarlet Macaws flying close overhead, and a pair of Quetzals picking avocados off the tree as they flew (then settle in another tree to digest). Our guide Edwin was excellent, and our driver, Alvaro, was adept in maneuvering on narrow roads. Our group size was 18.

Nov 4th 2015 program in Costa Rica. Awesome! Suppose to be rainy season, but did not affect any activities. Rained while on bus or at night. Highly recommend.

This was my 20th (or was it the 21st?) Road Scholar program. I found it to be especially informative and enlightening. The itinerary gave us a good view of Costa Rica from several perspectives. Our group leader was very knowledgeable with respect to Costa Rica's flora, fauna, culture, history and political environment. Our driver was well-qualified to handle the sometimes challenging roads and was very attentive to our comfort. I found Costa Rica a very comfortable country in which to travel... the people are friendly, the food is tasty and healthy, the scenery is beautiful and the rain... just don't worry about it! I think all members of our small group returned home with a real appreciation of what is meant by Pura Vida!

I have just completed The Best of Costa Rica: Exploring Natural Wonders trip and I had a truly enjoyable experience. Great companions on the trip made truly enjoyable.

I returned from this trip with great stories and great memories. Loved the wildlife, the beautiful scenery and the friendly people of Costa Rica. If you go, I can't promise you a leader like Pedro Bosques, a driver like Frank Alpizar or a great group like I had, but I am sure you will enjoy the trip.

If you have ever thought about going to Costa Rica, put those thoughts aside and just plan on going to this fantastic country. It is definitely a bio-diverse country that is full of plant, bird and animal life. You have to experience it all to really appreciate the beauty that Costa Rica has to offer. One of the best trips I have taken!!

Martha from Saint Louis, MO Number of programs attended: 7

This was an exceptional educational experience. I highly recommend it. I enjoyed the variety of activities and sights we saw. Costa Rica is a beautiful country, and I am impressed with how they are managing and preserving their natural resources. Our program leader Javier was the best, no question went unanswered. While there was a lot of time in transport, it was planned well with two nights in each place. The accommodations, meals and field trips were all good. This was my seventh Road Scholar trip and once again they lived up to my expectations.
