Program #21434RJ
7 Days | 6 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Moderate
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

We loved our time in beautiful Nova Scotia. Our group leaders were wonderful and the local food was great. Very interesting lectures and tours. Wish we could have spent longer there. Some of the walks down to the beach and back up were a bit more challenging than we expected but most of the group was able to do it.

I would like to offer a somewhat different view of this trip. As for positives, I certainly think the presentations and the major field trips were quite good. I suppose it depends on what you’re interested in, but I enjoyed the explanation of geology, the museums, and the chance to see what had been described by exploring lovely beaches. I wanted to see the Bay of Fundy, and its beaches and tides, and that I did. I do agree, though, that more could have been offered along this line—some of our local trips were less interesting, and we did have more “free time” than was needed. As for the motels, I did not find them “terrible.” They may not have offered the level of luxury and service that characterize some RS trips, but I doubt that such accommodations exist where we were, and in any case, it was pretty clear from the program description that we would be staying in what could be called traditional roadside motels. As such, they were fine. My room was clean, the bed was comfortable, the shower was good, there was plenty of closet space, and there was a kettle for tea. And, finally, we did not “drive straight into a hurricane,” but rather for the most part drove through the aftermath of a “post-tropical storm.” Yes, it was no fun being without power and water our first night on the road, but our suffering, such as it was, pales in comparison to the suffering of many of those whose homes were in the areas we were passing through.

I have been on 26 or more RS trips and if most of them weren't wonderful, I wouldn't continue to travel with them; but this was without a doubt the WORST one I have ever been on. Nothing has ever come close. Poor leadership, terrible motels, hours and hours on unsafe buses with overworked drivers, and an itinerary that could have been accomplished in half the time. I'm not even mentioning the decision to start this program by driving straight into a hurricane instead of waiting it out in Halifax where we might have had power, food, water, toilets that flushed, and felt safe. I am trying to think of one positive thing to say….so I suppose it would be that most of our meals were very good. But as for the rest of this trip…. UGH!!!
