John Muir wrote, "Keep close to Nature's heart...spend a week in the woods. Wash your spirit clean." I felt my spirit being cleansed as I walked among the redwoods. I hope to do it again someday!

This program gives a wonderful opportunity to appreciate the amazing old growth coastal redwood trees which one would never have without hiking into the forest. We obtained a better perspective of the ecological and historic aspects of the coastal redwood region We liked all the program staff, whom we knew from an earlier program, and had a congenial group with which to hike. While our main interest related to the forests, we appreciated visiting the historic towns, as well. The accommodations were good, and we liked the catered meals very much.

It's a terrific program visiting awesome redwoods. The helpful, knowledgeable leaders introduced me to the largest organisms the world has ever sustained.

I really enjoyed the 4 days hiking in the Redwood forest. Its like going into another world, the world of the giants. The forest floor was covered with moss and all kinds of vern and wild flowers. I saw the most beautiful setting of a small waterfall surrounded by verns and moss. I also saw an old maple tree covered with mustard green moss. The whole forest was luscious and green. At some places I could not hear my own footsteps because the ground was padded with organic matter. I think the Redwood National Park is a must see for every American. It is part of who we are --> from the Redwood forest to the Gulf Stream waters

This was an awesome experience! It was our very first Road Scholar trip and I am sure we will be back for many more. The trip leaders were outstanding and the participants were incredibly interesting people whom we hope to see again some day!

Hiking the Redwoods was a delightful adventure of easy to moderate daily walks up to ~3 miles - hiking is too strong a word to describe the activity level - through the coastal redwood forest and related coastal and riparian habitats. The hosts, Carol and Lynn Unser, were wonderful and did an excellent job of organizing and coordinating the daily activities. The "experts" who led the daily walks, Jerry and Gisela Rhodes, Jenny Hanson, and Joseph Calbreath were also excellent and did a great job of interpreting what we were seeing. Definitely bring an open mind and willingness to learn and you will have a great time too.

This five night program is an excellent way to see, appreciate, and learn about the coastal Redwoods in California, and also have some wonderful hikes in these forests with a small group of very interesting and compatible people from all over the U.S. The teachers/guides were very knowledgeable. Linn and Carol, the couple who organize and are the coordinators of this program are experienced, friendly folks who set a very positive tone for all of the group. ( I have gone on two other programs with them and would do so again.)
