Our granddaughter is an animal lover. This program was exactly what she wanted - hands on with many different kinds of animals plus fun trips to Zion and Bryce!

Our program guide Sally is a retired teacher and did a great job interacting with the participants. She was especially skilled at interacting with the youngsters. Our driver Jerry was skilled and knew his way around the area. The entire program was interesting and educational. Suggestions/observations for new attendees are: 1. If travelling in June be aware of the heat. Out daily temps were in the high 90’s and low 100’s. Water was readily available and use of sunscreen encouraged. 2. Expect downtime and limited assistance at Best Friends. Most of the contribution involved socializing the animals. The bunny and puppy areas were the most organized. The horse and pig area involved simply a walk through, aside from an excellent presentation on the Parelli method of horse training. 3. Bring gloves. We did work hard weeding in the “Old Friends” dog area, and the weeds were interspersed with dog “poo”. Gloves were not available, but we could wash our hands when through. Gloves would have also helped prevent blisters when weeding and raking. I would suggest weeding in the morning before the heat of the day. While we did not have any incidents, I am not sure that people in their late 60’s and 70’s should be weeding in 100 degree heat, even though it was optional. 4. Expect dinner meals (except for the last night in St. George) to be average. Breakfasts were standard hotel fare and lunches at Best Friends were good but strictly vegetarian. 5. Long pants, as recommended for the animal areas, turned out to not be necessary and resulted in over-packing. One pair would be appropriate if intending to horseback ride on the last day (which was very enjoyable).

This program for children and grandparents is fun and educational. I highly recommend it for everyone who loves animals and is awed by nature! The Road Scholar leaders and the arrangements are excellent. The requirements for sense of humor and flexibility are essential.
