13 Days | 12 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

This was my second Road Scholars trip. It was recommended by a person on the first trip. This was a wonderful way to, not only see the Hillerman landscapes, experience the American southwest and to interact with the Acoma's, Zuni's, Hopi's, and Navajo's in their homelands, to experience their cultures an to learn their histories. Dick Sandlin is an excellent tour leader and Dick Smith a most patient and thorough assistant. Now I have to reread the Hillerman books. Have recommended this tour to several people.

Excellent opportunity to experience a wide range of native peoples and obtain both a glimpse and appreciation of aspects of their cultures/histories. A whirlwind tour that covers a vast amount of geography, I heartily endorse it and would love to repeat it.

The weather this October 2013 was perfect. Warm days and cool nights added to the enjoyment of visiting Indian Pueblos, reservations and culture centers. Our visit to the Crownpoint Rug auction was a really a fun filled event. Several of our participants bid and bought rugs. We discovered later that the prices at the auction were extremely good value. We were a group of sixteen people with three leaders and a very large bus. Dick Sandlin, Anne Hillerman and Don Strel all taught us about the Southwest, Tony Hillerman’s love of the people and Landscape and how to take good photographs. I would highly recommend this program. Our photos are online at: http://www.umassk12.net/photo/Hillerman/index.html
