Road Scholar
Program #14802RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
Road Scholar has thousands of educational adventures to choose from. A good way to narrow down our list is to browse our collection of "Most Popular" programs.
See all of our Most Popular programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

My granddaughter and I thoroughly enjoyed this learning adventure. The main guide, Gary, was outstanding. He knew his history and had a great sense of humor. We were blessed with perfect weather the last two days of exploring, so that made it even better.

The Washington Intergenerational Adventure was my first Road Scholar trip and I could not be more pleased. My granddaughter and I had a wonderful time and learned so much about our country - then and now. Her parents could not believe all we did each day! Thanks to Road Scholar!!!

History can be boring. This program brought history to life and for the first time I appreciated how fortunate we are to have founding fathers who were brave, very intelligent and, especially Washington, survived their many wars and battles.

A superior introduction to American history and government with an amazingly thorough introduction to the nation's capital, its museums and monuments. The leaders provided a passionate view of our architecture, science, aviation, news media, history and special insights about the city of Washington itself.

Excellent overview of historical events, present-day sites of interest, and a brief look at the future of the Washington DC mall area. The program included a perfect variety of activities and experiencies for both the young and their grandparents.

Nancy from Peoria, AZ Number of programs attended: 18

A fast-paced program that helped grandparents and grandchildren alike understand what life was like in our nation's capitol from the time of the Revolutionary War to the present.

Lori from Stanardsville, VA Number of programs attended: 3

What a fine way to learn more about your country, the people who have conceived it and some of those who have improved it through the years. The program is for adults and grandchildren 9 to 14 years old. Most youngsters in that age group will miss a lot of the facts, but they still can grasp underlying concepts. For the adults it is a pure pleasure.

What an interesting and fun week for grandchildren and grandparents alike. We went to all the expected sites, and to new ones as well. Although it was incredibly hot in DC last week, we split our inside and outside activities to take advantage of our full agenda. A definite thumbs up.
