The experience for me was a God send . I lost my wife in 2013 after caring for her for 7 years . I have been rather reclusive since . I needed to push on with my life and the Ozark experience gave me a great start .

Wow! The Ozarks are more beautiful than I expected and the music was captivating.

This was my first road scholar adventure and it was a great experience. I was a little apprehensive about going on my own without a travel companion but found that every person attending was extremely friendly and welcoming. It is an outstanding program and has set the bar high for future trips I plan to take. I would encourage anyone considering this trip to sign up. Great fun, great cabins, excellent food and wonderful music. The group leaders are fantastic!

There were both pros & cons to this program. The Craft Village was great with all the shops; and especially the mountain music show that plays most of the day. We attended 3 of their shows and loved them. Another plus was Blanchard Cave. The little town of Mountain View is quaint; many shops downtown around the courthouse square. The cons were that we didn't receive some of the attractions and activities that were scheduled in our program guide. Most disappointing was the Jimmy Driftwood show that we were scheduled to attend; and didn't. There were other activities that we expected because they were listed in our packet but we didn't receive. Some good & some not, but we did enjoy being in Mountain View.

The talent of the performers is not to be missed. The warmth of the instructors, performers, drivers, dining & housekeeping staff, & locals will delight you. We shared the week with a great group of fellow participants also.

If you want to get the feel of what life was and is in the Ozarks in Arkansas, you will not find a better program! Mary is an outstanding leader with never ending energy. And her musical group Harmony is tremendous. All the facilities and the people involved with the program are top notch!

This was my first experience with the Road Scholar program. It exceeded my expectations and I would highly recommend it to anyone that loves folk music. I was one of the few people that went without a companion, but I did not once feel alone or left out. I will definitely attend another program.

Marion from Chanute, KS Number of programs attended: 1

The setting is awesome: foliage-covered mountains, clear streams, wide rivers and first-class "cabins" at the edge of the woods. The staff is incredible.
Learn lots you didn't know, including things you didn't thing you cared about until you hear it from the storytellers, songwriters, folk music performers and craftspeople who carry on the history and traditions of
the pioneer spirit.

Run, don't walk to sign up in 2015 for this delightful tour. Excellent leaders and instructors will take you back to a simpler time. Enjoy music, scenery and people that will refresh your soul. Read about it and then think "twice as nice as described". We guarantee you will not want to leave the Ozarks!

I had a wonderful time, and learned a lot about the early settlers in Arkansas. Late September is a perfect time for this program...the weather was just beautiful. And the music is the best part! So many talented musicians that could sing and play the folk music.

Theresa from Manitowoc, WI Number of programs attended: 9

The program was fun and energizing. The coordinator and presenters made it that way. WE sang together, danced, and even gigged. Can't wait for our next Road Scholar program. Great participants too!!

This ranks up there with the best of programs and the best price. Imagine you are back in time. You watch the household items you need being made by hand. You hear the songs that tell the stories of how life was lived and what problems had to be dealt with, You see the instruments being played from the time period and played by the young children along with the adults. Some really professional musicians along with those just trying out entertain you day and night with many performances. The food includes recipes from years ago as well as vegetarian choices--and huge breakfasts. The buffet style allows for several choices of meats and veggies and deserts. Transportation everywhere is provides--from you cabin as well. Or, you can get your Ozark legs walking up and down the big hill before and after meals The Folk Center has several auditoriums to use for square dance instructions, to monologues, to music, to games From Sunday to Friday morning you truly felt back in time. Then the nature was also the star. Blanchard Caverns and Blanchard Springs and a float trip on the White River allowed you to see the forests and cliffs and caverns of the area. Picnics there made socializing so easy. I was a solo travelers. I had a roommate assigned, and really felt a kinship. The other participants were a mix of couples, kinfolk, friends, and solos like me.

Really great program. Music and crafts and history and mountain and forest setting were marvelous, trip to cave and other scenic areas and also to "town" were all great. Leader and instructors terrific. We've done almost 30 Elderhostels and I think this is my favorite.

I recently attended a Road Scholar trip "An Ozark Experrience" for the first time. I was with friends that have been on many trips. I felt very welcomed by all. The programs were excellent and informative. The area and accomodations were outstanding and very comfortable. I do appreciate all the efforts of the leaders that made my trip so enjoyable.

The Ozark Experience was truly magnificent. We learned new crafts, saw awe inspired scenery, and listened to beautiful "mountain music", which pervades the local culture. We met wonderful people; including fellow u scholars and teachers. Even though this was ou first Road Scholar adventure, it certainly won't be our last. Peter and Linda Browne

This was a great program and the leadership was fantastic. Music on the float down the White river was surprising and wonderful and in a beautiful setting! A fantastic setting for our 65th anniv.

Roberta from Holts Summit, MO Number of programs attended: 16

This excellent program exceeded my expectations. Mary Gillihan's love of the region and its music added so much to the program. It is in a beautiful part of the country and the trip on the White River was delightful with the oarsmen singing and many sightings of birds, turtles and even a bald eagle.

Kay from Austin, TX Number of programs attended: 5
