The reason for my taking this trip was to learn more about the Salem Witch Trials and Nathaniel Hawthorne. An excellent job was done in the time frame allotted. The Peabody Museum was an unexpected treat which I enjoyed very much also. Another feature was learning about Salem itself and its important place in early American History. I would recommend this relatively short trip to anyone. This was my second Road Scholar trip. As with the first, I found the fellow participants exceptionally delightful and a joy to be with. The lecturers were very knowledgeable and made their topics come alive. Our tour guide was a treat as well.

I loved this trip. There was a dose of learning, free time, and actual visiting of historical sites. The lectures were perfect and given by persons who knew the area very, very well! Everything was perfect, including the weather!!!

The Salem program covers several aspects of Salem's long history: as an important American seaport with a trading range as far as Asia; as a seat of literary activity; and as the location of the witchcraft trials of 1692. Five days in Salem is enough to give a good feel for the development of the town from a fishing village to an important international seaport to an industrial city to the tourist destination it is today. Accommodations are centrally located, all the activities are an easy walk from the hotel, and parking is next to the hotel and free. I give the overall Salem experience an excellent rating.

The program in Salem MA more than met my expectations. The town is delightful with a world class museum (the Peabody-Essex Museum), which I did not expect. The group size, 19, was perfect, The lecturers all vey knowledgeable and the acomodations in a historic hotel in the center of town was perfect.

It was a small group which made it easier to meet each other and talk. The group was very friendly at meals or when touring due to the friendly and welcoming tone set by Joan Paguliuca, the group leader. The lecturers were very knowledgable and sites we visited were well chosen. The week was well planned.
