Ivan covered all the highlights of this excellent program. I especially enjoyed the play "Stand By Your Man" at the Greenbrier Valley Theater and Karen Vuranch's one woman show about the life of a coal miner's family. This was truly a 5-star program!

I was surprised at how well structured this program was. On the first day, we learned about the history of the area, including the role the Native Americans played. The second day focused on the coal mines and lives of the coal miners. The third day focused on the luxury of the Greenbrier Resort and the cold war bunker beneath it. The next day focused on agriculture. The final morning focused on this area at the time of colonial and Revolutionary War era. By the time the program was over, I had a better understanding not only of the Greenbrier Valley, but why the State of West Virginia exists and why its people love it. Combined with quality accomodations, good food, excellent program coordinator, lecturers and bus driver, this was definitely a program I would recommend to anyone, especially if they are looking for something they didn't expect.

Program #9504- Greenbrier Valley Adventure-July 27th to August 1 2014
It was a great pleasure to attend a recent Road Scholar program in Lewisburg, West Virginia. This was an eclectic program in that we saw coal mines, old churches, an unusual radio observatory in Green Bank; W.V. an apple orchard where a excellent presentation on what must be done to bring an apple from blossom to the store was given. We also got to see an old grist mill and more. All of it was well planned and very satisfying. Probably the most interesting visit was to the bunker at the Greenbrier Resort and a delicious lunch at their Golf Club restaurant. We got an idea on beautiful and diverse southern West Virginia is and I would certainly recommend this program. I would be remiss if I didn’t include the Cass scenic railroad trip up the mountain and an evening at the Greenbrier Valley Theater where we saw a most entertaining play called- Lucky Stiff. This Road Scholar program was packed with so much pleasure!

Our Greenbrier trip proved very interesting and lots of fun. We especially enjoyed learning more about the early coal miners and was educated in the effect it had on families by the one woman show presented by Ms. Karen Vuranch. All in all, a delightful experience.

West Virginia is not only Wild and Wonderful but packed with a wide assortment of genuinely fascinating experiences when packaged by design artists who are both creative and enjoyable. This gets our top rating of nine programs to date.
