This Road Scholar trip was everything we had hoped for: informative lectures on volcanoes, history and culture of Hawaii as well as plants and birds. The Tour Director and his wife + the 33 participants were great. Everyone was anxious to learn and experience these beautiful islands. We enjoyed every minute!

An excellent introduction to the Hawaiian Islands - and the performance by the Kahala Elementary School Hula Troupe was priceless! Pat Lau is an exemplary group leader: warm, thoughtful, with lots of 'insider info' to share.

An excellent introduction to the four main islands of Hawaii... great history lessons of the people and culture. Great job of handling a group of 35 in a ship that holds 2100! We had priority exiting for our tours and didn't feel we were small fish in a big pond (we were concerned about that, not being fans of large ship sailings)

If you require natural beauty to revive you from a world that is "too much with us" and educational backup to what you're seeing, smooth sailing re: organization and execution of the planned activities, this trip -- and Road Scholar trips in general--should be your choice of group travel.

The Road Scholar trip, Tropical Splendor, hosted by Frank and Lee Choo was an outstanding experience. Frank made every effort possible to see to the comfort and well being of the group. The tour guides were well chosen and experts in their fields. They led us through and explained the attributes of volcanoes, lava tubes, cloud and rain forests. The Hotel, Hawaii Prince, was enjoyable. The food was the best. We toured the Bishop Museum and the Royal Palace for a glimpse into the history and culture of Hawaii. The cruise ship, Pride of America, gave us a base for exploring other islands, as well as providing good entertainment during our free time. We had a variety of restaurants to choose from and the food and service were uniformly excellent. Unsurprisingly, the varying and differing backgrounds within the group led to many congenial conversations and discussions. This trip proved to be an excellent learning and social experience. We would highly recommend it. Naomi & Norm

This was our fourth Road Scholar tour and it meant the high standards that we have come to expect from Road Scholar. It challenged me to think and see things from a different point of view. It educated us on Hawaii culture and history and dispelled many of my perceived ideas. I feel I have a much better understanding and appreciation for our 50th state. We enjoyed our tour very much. Aloha Frank and Lee.

Just returned home after experiencing "Tropical Splendor: Exploring the Hawaiian Islands." We, my husband and I, had a wonderful time, seeing four of the islands and learning so very much. We actually had a vocanologist with us as we visited the volcanoes on the big island. She is currently filming the latest lava flow - up close and personal. Her knowledge and bravery were inspiring. We learned so much about the diverse people of Hawaii and their history from various professors who accompanied us on the tour buses. We even learned some of the Hawaian language. I would highly recommend this program, our 5th and perhaps our favorite.

If you only get one shot at seeing the Hawaiian Islands, this cruise would fulfill most of what you need to know to hold your own in a conversation about her beauty and history.

What a great way to enjoy all of the major Hawaiian islands and learn about their unique history, geography, and culture. Loved the Hula performance by elementary school students! Pat, our leader, did a great job of making sure everything ran smoothly.

Greetings to Beth. My husband and I loved this tour. I previously thought Hawaii was essentially a place for sunbathing at beaches and swimming pools, which does not interest me at this point in my life. Traveling with Road Scholar, I found that Hawaii is a fascinating place, in terms of the various islands' history, geology, flora, fauna, etc. The program leader, Art Reed, is highly organized and also an excellent lecturer. We enjoyed listening to the various experts who led the walks. Many of the places we saw were filled with natural beauty. The hotel in Honolulu where we started the trip was excellent, and then cruising from island to island made travel easy. Our traveling companions were intelligent and friendly. Five-star recommendation.

This was my first Road Scholar adventure. I had a great time and would encourage anyone who wants to see Hawaii, to consider this trip. Our program leader, Art Reed was so terrific, that I will look for his name when considering my next RS trip.
