The "Challenging" version of the program "Hiking Arches and Canyonlands National Park" was fantastic. It offered opportunities to go on hikes that I would have never known about. The guides shared with us their knowledge of the area and they made every hike exciting, fun and very doable. Every hike was different and challenging without being overwhelming. Make sure to bring rain gear just in case because even though it is mostly desert it does rain and if you are lucky you actually experience flash floods! I highly recommend this trip.

This is a program for folks who seek chances to be active in nature. The hikes were challenging, both in length and in ability to climb and balance. The leaders of our group were skilled at this sport, good teachers, and supportive. The whole experience was enjoyable and energizing.

If you want jaw-dropping sights and rock formations in all colors, shapes and sizes, and if you are an experienced hiker -- this is your trip. A great variety of colorful scenery, viewed from different elevations, sometimes looking WAY up, other times looking WAY down. Interesting geology talks along the way made it easier to interpret the different soil/rock layers and changes over time. Our leaders Peter and Dan were personable and fun. The days were full and well organized for maximum enjoyment and hiking experiences!

The scenery is phenomenal and the hiking is moderately challenging. The instructors were out- standing. One of the best Road Scholar programs I have experienced.

This was my first Road Scholar program, and I enjoyed it thoroughly. The leaders were knowledgeable, the parks were wonderful, the hikes were challenging but do-able, and the other participants were friendly.

We went on the advanced hike week in early October. This was our first trip with RS and it won't be our last! Everything was beyond our expectations including the competent, adventuresome, and fun guides; the hikes selected for the week; the people that also attended during our week. The hikes were all different and in areas we probably would not have found or could not get reservations had we been on our own. We arrived early and spent a day in Arches to do the more popular hikes that were not on the RS itinerary which I highly recommend.

This program takes you to places you can't easily see on your own. If you want to see the normally visited portions of Arches and Canyonlands or wander around the visitors centers or attend one of the many ranger talks offered by park staff, be sure to schedule several extra days in the area before and after your few days with the program. Great instructors and excellent hikes.

Michael from Portland OR This was our second RS trip and it was fabulous. Ryan and Jerry our guides made this trip exceptional. They were fun, informed and always seeking out special aspects of each day's hikes. The small group was composed of interesting and experienced hikers. This is a great trip for those who are in good shape and able to do 8-9 miles a day.

I learned so much about the ever-changing nature of the geology of the Arches and Canyons and saw some of these changes first hand . The colors and shapes of the rock formations were breathtaking. It was such an exciting way to learn from excellent instructors who were also fun to be with. Great exercise in a gorgeous setting!

We have recently returned from our first ever Road Scholar trip. We were on the hiking Arches and Canyonlands National Parks program from April 19-26 with leaders Ryan Kirkpatrick and Jerry Shue. The trip exceeded all our expectations. Ryan and Jerry were amazing, taking us on beautiful trails that we would never found on our own. The other guests in our group were fun and interesting. We definitely plan to take more trips with Road Scholar in the future!

I found this program to be all that I expected and more - I had never been to that area of the country and was not sure how I would do with the hiking - I had concerns about elevation and under foot as all of the other hiking programs that I had done with Road Scholar were on the AT in various states - I had no problems with either and really enjoyed the week - as a matter of fact I will return to do another hike in Utah - probably next spring -

Michael from Kelowna, BC Number of programs attended: 7

This is a great programme: educational, entertaining and challenging. Our instructors were personable and accommodating. Moab is beautiful and the places this programme takes you to will make you feel privileged. Fiery Furnace, Arches National Park, qualifies as a spiritual experience.

Deborah from Tucson, AZ Number of programs attended: 8
Date attended: 10/19/14 - 10/24/14
This program is a good sampling of the variety of landscapes in the two parks and the geological explanation for them. Variety was the keynote for the week in fellow participants, dinner venues, and a couple of surprise treats! Most hikes are in-and-out, so if your knees or energy give out you can hang out along the trail and enjoy the beauty around. (Our session had two leaders, not three as in other reviews.)

Dick from Cameron Park, CA Number of programs attended: 2

Very good program for light hiking and mega-doses of geology info. Lots of short hikes with three leaders to take care of the different levels of hiking capability. Peter, Dan and Ruthie were superb leaders, always helpful and fun to be with.

Diana from Minnetonka, MN Number of programs attended: 3

Breathtaking scenery with an encouraging and supportive leader. What a great experience!

Hiking Arches and Canyonlands National Parks was amazing. I felt privileged to experience such beautiful scenery without the crowds of people. Our guides, Ryan and Dan, were professional and knowledgable. Their enthusiasm for exploring the great outdoors is inspiring and motivating. I would not hesitate to book another hiking adventure with this group.

See the lush desert was a wondrous experience. Canyonlands defies description--magnificent, glorious and grandiose cannot do it justice. You need to see it for yourself and take some time to absorb the views. It's well worth the hike. The guides were great. It was evident that they enjoy what they do and sharing the experience and their knowledge.
