Road Scholar
Program #19886RJ
6 Days | 5 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Active
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Joel from Bay Area We have attended a previous theater, food, and wine week before.(Elderhostel) I recommend this package as a good way to go. The hotel is very close to the theaters as well as shopping. At that time the group had dinner at three different restaurants, all very good. The owner/chef spoke to us each time. That did not happen on this trip. I wish it had.

Ashland's Feast for the Senses: Theater, Food and Win was delightful. Daily we got to hear and see actors, wig makers, language experts and each of the three theaters. It was a fun learning experience about Ashland's live theater and how they work with the community and the schools -- 65,000 children got to see live theater!!
We saw three plays and enjoyed a new (to us) playwright and his play Two Trains Running. Delightful. We heard the wigmaker lecture, and saw the wig on Wolf in this play. It made the character!
We stayed in the beautiful Ashland Springs hotel and had dinner there the first night. Other lunches were in gourmet, organic restaurants within walking distance in town.

One day we made our own lunch --- watched a cooking class and then got to eat the vegetable rolls, chicken and choclate covered strawberries.

Highlight was the winery visit for lunch and tasting! Delicious and delightful!! China, crystal and two wines. If that wasn't enough, we walked around to the tasting room to sample local Oregon wines.

Our guide Carol was superb and knew her area and the theater well. Loved using the "walk around hearing sets" so we could hear her and other guides all the time. Thank you!

If you enjoy the theater & seeing Shakespeare presented in different settings; this is the place for you. Ashland is beautiful, the festival offers 9 to 11 plays throughout the season, the Road Scholar 5 day trip offers 3 plays but there is time for you to purchase 1 or 2 plays on your own (which I do each year). Staying at the Ashland Hotel is a treat--refurbished to its 1920's style & a block away from the theaters. You can't beat the location. You are also treated to different cuisines at nearby restaurants for lunch or dinner as well having some time to go on your own. This is a trip well worth the price.

Peggy was a wonderful leader who ensured we all had an experience that exceeded our expectations. I enjoyed all aspects, and appreciated her humor, professionalism and caring ways. Great lectures, shows, beautiful setting, yummy food, relaxing yet highly engaging time.
