Program #7735RJ
7 Days | 6 Nights
ACTIVITY LEVEL: Challenging
While all of our learning adventures offer extraordinary value, our "Best Value" programs were rated by our participants themselves who thought their dollar went particularly far.
Love to learn in a small-group setting? This collection of programs has at most 10-24 participants.
See our Small Group programs.
EasyFor people looking to exercise their minds more than their bodies. There’s minimal walking and not too many stairs.
ModerateThese programs get you on your feet and include activities such as walking up to a mile in a day through a city and standing in a museum for a few hours.
ActiveFor people who enjoy walking as much as two miles a day, perhaps to explore historic neighborhoods or a nature trail.
Moderately ChallengingFor hardy explorers who enjoy a good physical challenge, spending most of their days on the go.
ChallengingGet ready to keep up with our highest-energy group. These demanding — and rewarding — programs are for seasoned outdoor enthusiasts.

Joyce and I participated in the March 31st to April 6, 2014 hike in Zion and Bryce. It was lead by Darrell and Paula McMahon with Fred as our driver. This team provided us with a great trip to a beautiful area of our country. Darrell did an excellent job explaining what we were looking at, while Paula kept us on schedule with Fred getting us there and back safely. This was our first Road Scholar trip, and hopefully the first of many.

Number of programs attended: 9 Jane and Denis from Delaware Date attended: 9/9/13 - 9/15/13 Darrell and Paula McMahon were a great team in taking care of us. In addition, Darrell was probably the most knowledgeable guide in our 9 trips. We liked having our days packed with hiking and educational activities over having more down time. Meals and accommodations were above the norm for Road Scholar. Hope to take another Dixie State University hike with Darrell and Paula in the future.

Great well organized and lead tour! Darrell and Paula McMahon are outstanding, their warmth and caring make all attendees feel comfortable! Great information (geology, biology, etc.) and humor. Would recommend this tour, these tour leaders, etc. Plan another trip to Utah (Bryce - cross country skiing and snow shoeing) with Darrell and Paula.

Darrell and Paula McMahon are exceptional leaders/hosts. Hiking was challenging, learning was enjoyable and fun -- Darrell infuses geology and biology with humor and excellent interpersonal skills. Paula kept us on track, on time and moving seamlessly from one activity to the next without too much "down" or free time. One of the best of 8 Road Scholar trips I've experienced -- if not the best!

Loved to explore Zion and Bryce National Parks. Darryl & Paula were excellent leaders for this trip!

Brendan from Peru, IN Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 04/15/13 - 04/21/13
A tremendous program. The program leader, the teachers, the accommodations, the activities, all great! My only problem was the meals, most of which were buffets. Some of which were good and others not so good.

Pamela from Brookline, MA Number of programs attended: 2
Date attended: 04/01/13 - 04/07/13
Great adventure, great Road Scholar staff, breathtaking national parks (Bryce and Zion), great participants. Everything was perfect. Hikes were challenging but doable.

Janice from Manhattan Beach, CA Number of programs attended: 6
Date attended: 04/01/13 - 04/07/13
I had a good workout in a beautiful environment with great people. And I lost 3 pounds! What more can you ask for?

Amy from Minnetonka, MN Number of programs attended: 1
Date attended: 09/10/12 - 09/16/12
Overall the trip was wonderful - interesting people, informative and accommodating leaders, and best of all - fabulous hiking. I would have preferred more hiking; we didn't do as much as the description led me to believe. Also, the food, while abundant, could have been tastier and more appealing. Worst of all was the lack of hot water at the College Inn. However, despite those drawbacks, I would still recommend the trip if you want to see/hike that part of the country, with interesting people at a very reasonable price.

An awesome experience! Our group intends to select another adventure for next year.

There needs to be a place on the evaluation form for comments that might be called "other." On the Bryce-Zion trip there were 5 nights at places (Including College Inn) with swimming pools actually warm enough to comfortably swim. (That is most unusual in my experience with motels.) And, it would have been nice to have had hot water at the College Inn.
