This was a fabulous program! The entertainment and presentations were all great. Some of the festival venues were unusual, and all were entertaining. The low-country cuisine is sooooooo good. My roommate, Terri, (who I was matched with on a Dec 2013 Mississippi River program) proves that roommate matches can be a very good thing. See review by Terri for food comments. Be sure to look at the Piccolo programs to attend during flex time. We attended a few and all were excellent. Being a flex program gave us lots of time to explore on our own. Consider going a few days early or staying after program to get to see plantations and other historical sights. I am already booked for another Charleston program in October, 2015.

Fascinacting lectures, a beautiful walkable city, great performances ....wnat's not to love? And the hotel is lovely and perfectly located with excellent food and accommodating service. Jocelynn, our group leader was energetic and helpful, positive and full of suggestions. This was a wonderful trip.

I had never heard of the Spoleto-Piccolo festival, and it was only on a whim that I attended. I had a fabulous time. My days and nights were filled with music, historical and cultural experiences. And, you don't go to Charleston without experiencing new foods. She-crab soup was on all menus and a BLT with the T being a friend green tomato served with romoulade was my favorite. I want to go back and see some of the plantations -- just ran out of time. I also spent five days before the trip started on the Isle of Palm, which gave more time to know the area. We were lucky to have mostly mild weather; this is not where I want to be when the days heat up and humidity climbs.

I greatly enjoyed all my experiences and learning at the Spoleto Festival Road Scholar trip. As a resident of California, I was not aware of the history and contributions to American culture of this region before my experience with Road Scholar. I am now enthusiastically reading historical fiction about the area ( John Jakes, author) and learning how to cook with grits. I will soon read about My Cousin Rachel and test my theory that she was a sociopath. I could be wrong about that, but so far the theory fits. The chamber music of Spoleto was superb.

This program provided exceptional performances in a charming setting. I would recommend it to anyone with an interest in the arts.

The city of Charleston, SC is a place everyone should see before they leave this earth; BUT attending the Spoletto Festival AND seeing Charleston at the same time is a TWO-FER!!!

Road Scholar's first Spoleto festival in Charleston, S.C. was a total success. They provided tickets to some of the most popular programs, and left lots of free time for exploration of other events and the wonderful city.
