We were delighted by the content and pace of the Northwest Passage program. The agenda gave us sufficient time to explore the different sites we visited as well as time to do some self guided exploration of the area. Overall our experience was greatly enhanced by the high quality of the presenters, their subject matter knowledge and especially by our group leader, John's knowledge of the area. He was well versed in the area's historical background as well as it's geology and biology, which contributed immensely to the quality of the program. Joe & Elizabeth

The northwest is a refreshing and very interesting part of America. Learning about it's history and interacting with the locals makes you want to return.

This program is definitely a 5! It offered the insights of local history and local living by leaders and speakers who live there. The hotels were great, the food awesome and the surroundings were beautiful. I must write about the speakers, if they had not lived the subject they were talking about, they had done extensive original research in it. The organizing group has this tour well organized. Our leader, John is just the right person to lead the group, his personality fits as a leader and his background as a teacher and outdoors person fits the area we exploring.

The program offered just what I wanted. It was a combination of big-city sights (Seattle) and the small-town atmosphere of Friday Harbor and Victoria. All hotels, meals, and location were quite good and very comfortable. The crowd was very congenial. I wouldn't go on the $90 boat ride to see Orcas out of Friday Harbor. We did see some wildlife but not what I expected. I also would have liked an extra day in Seattle when I could have taken in the art museum. The biggest minus of this trip was the $800 single supplement charged for a 9-day trip. I thought the charge was quite excessive and that Road Scholar should alter their single policies.

Road Scholar's response:
We are pleased you enjoyed the combination of Northwest locales and found the hotels, meals, and locations quite good and very comfortable. Please note that the single supplement is simply half of the accommodation costs with no mark up and in this case reflects peak season prices in the region. Road Scholar provides roommate matching services as well in case a participant does not wish to pay a single supplement. We provide a nice bit of free time in each city to allow for independent explorations, and in Friday Harbor a whale and wildlife search cruise is one of a wide variety of terrific free time options that one can choose to do.

This is an excellent program. It was well planned and well executed. The scenery was spectacular throughout. Chihuly Glass and Gardens in Seattle and the Butchart Gardens in Victoria were fantastic! The size of the group (42), however, was too large.

Just returned from Northwest Waterways program, 8/18 to 8/27/14, the program was well run and many interesting place along the way. the walking was more than I thought and some people had difficulty in keeping up. Ferries rides were very nice and lots of scenery on the way. Program leaders well versed in our program and kept the group together.

Very busy trip with great variety of activities, free time to go on your own, some good food. Great tour guides especially John who managed to calmly keep all 42 of us together through many bus & ferry trips. His home Friday Harbor is gorgeous.

Wonderful combination of beautiful scenery, interesting experiences, and educational opportunities. Lots to see and do, but never felt hurried. I especially enjoyed traveling via ferry on the outdoor or semi- sheltered areas. (Lots of indoor seating available, too.) I returned home with lots of good memories.

Great program that keeps you moving but allows you time to soak up the natural beauty that surrounds you. Found something to love in each of the stops, but thought San Juan Island was the most beautiful place I have visited in a very long time. Serenity with a setting beyond compare. Our tour leader John was the perfect guy for this tour since he lives on the island.
