This Road Scholar program did not meet expectations. We were with the SeaWorld guides "behind the scenes" for a small (but excellent) part of the day and on-our-own for the balance of the visit. Two raptor rehab centers were visited. Since they were very similar, one would be adequate, the second is "filler". The Jungle Adventure Park was a roadside "attraction". It was like the roadside "See and Touch the Live Animals" children's attractions of yesteryear. We saw exactly what any drive-up patron would see. A truly forgettable experience. At the Animal Kingdom we took the African Safari ride (like all visitors). We had a brief walk-thru "backstage", observing the animal hospital and food storage/preparation area and receiving a 4th grade-like introduction to an owl. The rest of the day was a lengthy, guided, walking tour through the Kingdom, not "behind the scenes", but alongside the thousands of other visitors. Totally omitted was how Disney "Imagineers" transformed wetlands into the Animal Kingdom as mentioned in the information packet. Our Road Scholar hosts were not familiar with this program and were as "clueless" as the rest of us. In summary: Almost nothing was "behind the scenes". In my opinion, what we experienced was not worth the long (for us) trip to Orlando. This program was not what we expect and have experienced from a Road Scholar program

Road Scholar's response:
We appreciate the feedback. Our program staff would like to clarify that this program has been improved for quality purposes and we are pleased to share that we have new group leaders, new program content, and additional behind the scenes experiences to offer on all dates going forward.

This is my 4th RS trip and it wasVERY disappointing. Compared to other trips, the "learning" component was minimal. The private zoo had shamefully small wire cages for animals--not modern habitats. "Backstage" tours at Disney and Sea World were regular tourist attractions. Barbara and Bill were very poor hosts. They were disorganized, unable to solve problems, gave wrong information, and took no responsibility for the group. Barbara scolded Jayne, our Disney guide, for forgetting a bathroom stop and called her "stupid." She stepped ahead of guests to take photos and was repeatedly the only person late or missing on guided tours. The hotel was nice and so were the buses and other travelers, but this itinerary is not worthwhile and hosts need to be carefully screened. All of our previous hosts were excellent, as were the itineraries.

It was enjoyable to learn about the animals and birds and to actually touch them in an educational setting.
