This was a superb trip. If you want to experience a special region of France, have a wonderful time in Strasburg and barging along the canal, enjoy food and wine and cheese, sign up now. The barge experience allows you a closeness to the culture that is unique. The combination of days in Strasburg in a 4 star hotel followed by a truly outstanding barge trip provide a great immersion into the Alsace. The organization of the trip is spot on, every day was different and great fun. The Madeleine barge is new in 2014 and is charming. Rooms are small but carefully appointed, great beds and bedding, very nice shower with plenty of hot water, and free Wi-Fi on board. Meals are very good, and the staff is delightful. Our tour leader Audrey Riehm was totally organized, a great leader, and shared so many personal stories with us that increased our appreciation of Alsace and barging. I look forward to planning another barge trip with Road Scholar and Croisi Europe.

This was one of the very best Elderhostel/Road Scholar programs of the 16I have taken over the years! Highly recommended.

The canal trip through Alsace was a ten out of ten. "Madeline" is a floating 5 star hotel, her crew attentive and cheerful. The Voges mountains were woodsy and rural while Strasbourg was historic and modern. Every day brought opportunities for bicycling, and the food and drink were plentiful and delicious. The pace of canal cruising enforces the relaxation one hopes to achieve while on holiday.

If you are craving a couple of weeks leisurely spent gliding down a French canal on a brand new fully equipped for comfort barge then this Alsace Lorraine excursion is for you! Learn all about the region of Alsace while in the capable hands of the Madeleine crew and the group leader and many native guides! Thank you Road Scholar for a most pleasant first experience. This is just the beginning for me!

The trip was an interesting mix of city and country. Strasbourg is a bustling, fascinating city but even better was cruising through the countryside on our barge. The expeditions were interesting and the guides were informative. Riding a bike beside the canal every day was great fun.

This barge excursion surpassed my expectations. I felt like a queen on board the Madeline. What a relaxing and fairytale like way to experience the countryside of France.

This barge trip through Alscace was a new and wonderful experience. Our guide Audrey was the best guide I have ever had on any tour.
